30 Rock

A Boy Named Seo

You guys watch this show? I thought it was OK as it started, but each season for me has gotten much better.

Just watched the "Kidney Now!" episode where Jack gets Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Clay Aiken, and a bunch of other peeps together to have a benefit to get his pops (Alan Alda) a kidney. Thought it was hilarious.

I'm not sure what Hulu is, but they've got the full ep [url=http://www.hulu.com/watch/73145/30-rock-kidney-now:hyveifq3]here[/url:hyveifq3].

30 Rock.

Yeah or nah?

I didn't really start watching 30 Rock until this season, but I've enjoyed the show. It has a great cast and seems to be on the top of its game.

Love it. I was with it since the beginning. Haven't seen "Kidney Now" yet; we TiVo shows more quickly than we watch them, so we sometimes get weeks behind.

Serious 'Yea!' Love that show. Alec Baldwin just kills it every episode.

They missed out by not selling that song on iTunes for kidney cancer research or something. Could have made a couple of bucks.

Don't care for it much. It's just too self-consciously "wacky" and self-congratulatory about how wacky it is.

There are funny jokes from time to time, but they're always oversold and overstated. And the characters are completely nonsensical -- just comic props like rubber chickens.

love it. i think it might just be our current fave sitcom, edging or tying with the office.

and as good fan-wankers, we've totally adopted "blerg" into our everyday vocabulary.

The only sitcom I watch is "South Park." Everything else just seems forced and unfunny to me. Even the clips and promos all suck. Can you not seriously find 15 seconds of funny to entice me?

I always think the same thing. "I'm funnier that these fuckers."

I haven't committed to a new sitcom or drama in years and have never even seen 30 Rock. The idea of a self-referential entertainment industry show doesn't hold much appeal to me although I'm sure it's swell and all.

Last new show I gave a try to was Mad Men, but pretty soon I found couldn't give a damn.

Not a sitcom guy , just don't find any of them that funny. I've heard 30 Rock is great but I can't be bothered .

There's no harm in not watching a good show.

My Alec Baldwin gag factor is high.

Like, Richard Gere high.

Agreed about being nonsensical... but I'm not so sure that I'd write them off as props (although just about any and every character has been used for a cheap laugh or seven). They're often more like Hirschfeld caricatures-- exaggerated grotesques that come off almost truer than the real thing. Same goes for the lampooning of certain social/psychological dynamics-- there's some dark stuff being mined for goofy humor here (not just for one-offs, either-- the episodes involving her loser ex involve some pretty meaty stuff about the wisdom of "settling" when choosing a sig other... and not always condemning it, either).

And ohyeah-- big fan here. Not a huge Baldwin fan otherwise, but everything's a screaming liner off his bat here.

A recent fave: "The Bubble," in which the preferential treatment Liz' good-looking doctor boyfriend (Jon Hamm) has been receiving his entire life-- think "soft rain"-- has more or less rotted his intelligence/ability to fend for himself.

Rented the first two seasons. It's in an odd time slot for me and I never get to see it. I like it a lot.

I've been watching it since the beginning and think it's the best comedy on network television. If Curb Your Enthusiasm ever comes back, it's number one.

Oh, please. Hischfeld caught the essence of his subjects. Thirty Rock characters have no essence. They're just walking jokes -- and jokes that know they're jokes and keep nudging us in the ribs every two minutes to show us they're jokes. Really they are. They're wacky. They're nutty. They're insane. They're wacky. They're wacky. They're wacky. They're wacky. They're wacky. They're wacky. They're wacky. They're wacky. They're wacky. They're wacky. They're wacky. They're wacky. It's boring when I do it, and just as boring when they do.

Yes, there's overt wackiness, but there are also plenty of subtle jokes in the show.
