Wright - 3b
Church - rf
Sheffield - dh
Murphy - 1b
Schneider - c
Castillo - 2b
Pelfrey - sp

That's a winning team right there folks , looking at that winning nine makes me confident that we will be watching playoff baseball this season.

Bad guys:

Roberts 2B
Jones CF
Markakis RF
Huff 1B
mora 3B
Scott DH
Reimold LF
Wieters C
Andino SS

It occurs to me that they're strong exactly where we're weak (2B, RF, C, and, say, Scott at his usual LF). We'd make a hell of a Frankenstein lineup out of this squad.

The Newark Bears might have a more intriguing lineup than both squads.

Guthrie with three Ks through two innings. Oh my.

Matt Wieters is supposed to be like Joe Mauer with power/Johnny Bench with a better eye and contact rate. Adam Jones is frighteningly Eric-Davis-y. Nick Markakis is what the Pirates thought they were getting when they signed Andy Van Slyke longterm over locking up Barry... plus about 40 slugging percentage points, twice the walk rate, and a better arm.

Plus, Brian Roberts and Luke Scott and Aubrey Huff are at the tail end of their offensive peak years. They've got horses.

They just have no pitching-- Guthrie and Bergesen's flashes of competence aside-- yet. (Emphasis on yet-- they've got, like, three prime arms in the high-minors.)

Andino's the guy who hit his first ML homer as a walk-off against Matt Wise last year, right?

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr

One-hitter! DWright with a single to left, plating Fernando the Younger. Beltran to third on an erratic throw home.

As the Oriole Examiner knows, the Yankees would've scored, like, 5 on that, but still.

Swan Swan H
Jun 16 2009 05:58 PM

Wright with the big bingle, and some throwing tomfoolery sets up 1st & 3rd, no out for Churchie.

Before the Wright AB:

Keith (paraphrasing): Wright is so hot, if I were his teammate I'd be rubbing up against him.

POP QUIZ: Bases loaded, nobody out. Murphy coming up. How many get scored?

A) 0

B) 0

C) 0.5

D) 1, but somebody loses an arm on the scoring play

Swan Swan H

Well, he can't hit it much harder. 3-0 on a sacrifice line drive to the track in right, then Schneidley whiplashes a single up the middle to make it 4-0 Mets.

I like that too, the wanker in me thinks Wright was putting on a show for the cameras, but I know better.

Wright all up in Pelfs kitchen. How do you suppose the talk went?

It looked to me like Wright was talking in jive to Pelf with the way he had all the movement going on.

I am drunk 2000 miles from home in beautiful Shreveport, Louisiana on a work trip. No Mets games but lots of casinos and open bars.

I see the score is 6-2 and I am confident that the Mets will be victorious. Since there is no Mets TV coverage in the Bayou, I will go back to the casinos and Hustler clubs while the rest of you retire to your tents and to your dreams.

Adios my Mets brothers and sisters. And Let's Go Mets!

(PS Wayne Hagin is still a cunt.)

Geez, the Jays load the bases w/one out in the 8th vs the Phils down by a run ... then get a long line-drive to the warning track but Alex Rios doesn't tag from 3rd!!!!
Next guy up grounds out to end the inning and the Phils still lead.

Disappointing outing from Pelfrey overall.
Cruised through the first 15 batters getting 14 of them out ... and then got only 2 of the next 9 hitters and his night was done.

Nice job by Green settling things down after that and not making the game a 5 reliever affair.

Disappointing isn't the same thing as bad and/or worthless, just that the end didn't match the promise of the beginning. And that's kind of represents what Pelfrey is these days: good, but consistency or sustained goodness short of real good.
