Been a while since I started one of these.

metirish Jun 16 2009 02:00 PM |
That's a winning team right there folks , looking at that winning nine makes me confident that we will be watching playoff baseball this season.

Bad guys:

It occurs to me that they're strong exactly where we're weak (2B, RF, C, and, say, Scott at his usual LF). We'd make a hell of a Frankenstein lineup out of this squad.
Farmer Ted Jun 16 2009 05:28 PM |
The Newark Bears might have a more intriguing lineup than both squads.
Farmer Ted Jun 16 2009 05:29 PM |
Guthrie with three Ks through two innings. Oh my.

Matt Wieters is supposed to be like Joe Mauer with power/Johnny Bench with a better eye and contact rate. Adam Jones is frighteningly Eric-Davis-y. Nick Markakis is what the Pirates thought they were getting when they signed Andy Van Slyke longterm over locking up Barry... plus about 40 slugging percentage points, twice the walk rate, and a better arm. Plus, Brian Roberts and Luke Scott and Aubrey Huff are at the tail end of their offensive peak years. They've got horses. They just have no pitching-- Guthrie and Bergesen's flashes of competence aside-- yet. (Emphasis on yet-- they've got, like, three prime arms in the high-minors.)

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jun 16 2009 05:49 PM |
Andino's the guy who hit his first ML homer as a walk-off against Matt Wise last year, right?
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jun 16 2009 05:52 PM |
Wow, wouldn't it be something to be no-hit at Camden Yards?
Swan Swan H Jun 16 2009 05:55 PM |
A second baseman makes an error on a routine play. Inconceivable!

One-hitter! DWright with a single to left, plating Fernando the Younger. Beltran to third on an erratic throw home.
Swan Swan H Jun 16 2009 05:58 PM |
Wright with the big bingle, and some throwing tomfoolery sets up 1st & 3rd, no out for Churchie.
PiggiesTomatoes Jun 16 2009 06:00 PM |
Yeeha! Good guys breaking through. Come on, let's put up a big number.
Swan Swan H Jun 16 2009 06:01 PM |
Church delivers a run with a nice opposite field single, and Sheff also goes the other way to load 'em up for Muffy, still none out.
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jun 16 2009 06:01 PM |
POP QUIZ: Bases loaded, nobody out. Murphy coming up. How many get scored?
PiggiesTomatoes Jun 16 2009 06:02 PM |
The O's have us just where they want us. Based juiced, none down.
Willets Point Jun 16 2009 06:02 PM |
I'll go with 2.
Swan Swan H Jun 16 2009 06:05 PM |
Well, he can't hit it much harder. 3-0 on a sacrifice line drive to the track in right, then Schneidley whiplashes a single up the middle to make it 4-0 Mets.
Willets Point Jun 16 2009 06:06 PM |
Right on the money!
Willets Point Jun 16 2009 06:13 PM |
There goes the no-hitter.
Edgy DC Jun 16 2009 06:13 PM |
No no-hitter tonight.
PiggiesTomatoes Jun 16 2009 06:33 PM |
WTF, Mike. Stop walking these humps.
Nymr83 Jun 16 2009 06:35 PM |
Pelf gets out of the jam! I thought only the Mets could strand them loaded!

I like that too, the wanker in me thinks Wright was putting on a show for the cameras, but I know better. Wright all up in Pelfs kitchen. How do you suppose the talk went? It looked to me like Wright was talking in jive to Pelf with the way he had all the movement going on.

Sean Green has now officially removed the cringe. Things change fast in the pen, but he's earned my confidence until further notice.

Yes, and *that's* what I was referencing in my KTE. I knew it was something that made me dislike him.

I am drunk 2000 miles from home in beautiful Shreveport, Louisiana on a work trip. No Mets games but lots of casinos and open bars.

Geez, the Jays load the bases w/one out in the 8th vs the Phils down by a run ... then get a long line-drive to the warning track but Alex Rios doesn't tag from 3rd!!!!
Kong76 Jun 16 2009 07:41 PM |
I'm almost afraid to ask, but who's the sword swallower?

Check the KTE thread-- Edge be starting something with this unfortunate douche over some poorly chosen, Mets-baiting verbiage.

Young Bobby, recognizing that the Mets surely can't stand prosperity, places a couple of ducks on the pond for Frankie.

I don't like Wieters here (looking for his first ML homer) in this spot.

Frankie abuses Wieters, and TWiggy's upcoming 6-4-3 will settle this nicely.

Gwreck Jun 16 2009 08:02 PM |
In an eerie parallel, Ryan Madson also walked in a run. Blue Jays tied 3-3 with Philadelphia.

John Cougar Lunchbucket Jun 16 2009 08:07 PM |
Tellya what: When Frankie needs to get an out he gets the out. He's performed way beyond my wildest fantasies for him this year.
PiggiesTomatoes Jun 16 2009 08:07 PM |
Never a doubt!
Frayed Knot Jun 16 2009 08:07 PM |
And the Jays tied up Phillie - albeit after getting only 1 run total after loading the bases in two consecutive innings.
Gwreck Jun 16 2009 08:09 PM |
Freakin' Rios again. Struck out looking with the bases loaded and nobody out.
Frayed Knot Jun 16 2009 08:22 PM |
Disappointing outing from Pelfrey overall.
Edgy DC Jun 16 2009 10:27 PM |
Thr PotG voters are going with him, though.
Ashie62 Jun 17 2009 04:48 AM |
It was nice to see Sean Green step up in a big after Pelfrey fails to record a quality start
Frayed Knot Jun 17 2009 07:34 AM |
Disappointing isn't the same thing as bad and/or worthless, just that the end didn't match the promise of the beginning. And that's kind of represents what Pelfrey is these days: good, but consistency or sustained goodness short of real good.
Edgy DC Jun 17 2009 07:41 AM |
And I didn't write or imply he was bad and/or worthless. I have him in second.
