FAFIF/MBTN Event June 18

It's not exactly Superfly Meets Shaft, but Thursday June 18 will bring together Mets By The Numbers and Faith and Fear in Flushing under one roof for an unforgettable evening of reading, eating, drinking and Met-watching. (Your definition of unforgettable may vary.) I'm calling it Metstock: 3 Hours of Pizza and Baseball; you don't have to.

Our mutual publisher has arranged for JCL and I, along with A Magic Summer author Stanley Cohen, to read aloud form our respective books, sign them, sell them, talk about them...you know, no big whoop. But it sounds promising and all Mets fans (especially CPFers) are welcome to attend. It's at a very Mets-friendly place, Two Boots Tavern, on the Lower East Side. There's a very large poster of Hubie Brooks on the wall -- that's Mets-friendly, I'd say.

We go on at 7 and do our thing 'til 9. The Mets-O's game will be on and I imagine we'll stick around and watch it to its Interleague conclusion.

Two Boots is at 384 Grand St., accessible by several major subway lines. Web site here; Hubie seen here.

Hope y'all can make it. It should be fun.

Damn. Would love to be there but will instead be at Camden Yards that evening. Best of luck and I heartily endorse this event and/or product.

We are scheduled to have coverage from "Mets Weekly" and we even have a graphic.

METSTOCK: 3 Hours of Pizza and Baseball...no mud, either.

We're back! July 21 is the first of three monthly events along the lines of the last one (Metstock), this time dubbed Amazin' Tuesdays. Same great venue, Two Boots Tavern downtown. Joining the FAFIF-MBTN axis for an evening of Mets talk and such are Paul Lukas of Uni Watch and Matt Silverman of everything else, most recently "Shea Good-Bye" with Keith Hernandez.

Bring a Mets card and you get a free beer. The rest of the details here. Hope to see you there.

I'll be there.

I'll ask MK to rummage through his old baseball cards to get me a good one, um, I mean a bad one that I won't mind trading for a beer :)

One more time! JCL and I bring you the third and final AMAZIN' TUESDAY of the season, this Tuesday, 9/15 at 7 PM at Two Boots on Grand St. Details found on both of our sites. The special guests will be Jeff Pearlman, who's famous for (among other things) his Mets-related writing ("The Bad Guys Won," of course), and John Coppinger, a.k.a., Metstradamus, who ought to be. JCL will be counting down the number 6 and I'll...well, I'll think of something.

The last gathering in August was intimate but awesome. Hope a few of you who haven't been before (or have) will come on down.

And bring a Mets card for a free beer. It works.

I'm going to NY twice without the Mrs within the next 6 days, and a third would probably have me on the other side of the door with a frying pan handed to me...

Please do this during the off-season - I could see this being needed even more, then...

That was a lot of fun. G-Fafif and Lunchbucket were great, as always. Jeff Pearlman didn't seem sure about the crowd at first, but eventually warmed up to us and was really entertaining. And Metstradamus was hysterically funny - he says that he was nervous, but he worked off of the nervous energy effectively.

The free beer is not a joke - they made good on that, so I only had to pay for my calzone. My cab ride back to Penn Station cost more than my dinner!

It was well worth the trip :)

Thanks for coming. I thought this was the best of the 3 I attended.

Wanted pretty badly to be there last night-- was curious to meet Metstra and Pearlman-- but got caught up with dinner at the BabyMama's parents'.

Just curious, TMF-- what card did you bring? (Last time, I went with Castillo.)

Re: FAFIF/MBTN Event June 18

Damn - I cannot remember. MK gave me a couple of cards when I went in July, and I just grabbed one off of that pile.

I was too preoccupied with the books I had for Pearlman, Jason Fry and Dana Brand to sign. Between that and my good camera, I had the world's heaviest backpack last night.

Didn't realize that Dana Brand teaches at Hofstra. Lost a lot of respect for him there.
