Holy shit the Mets are able to field a "team"

Cora, ss
Murphy, 1b
Wright, 3b
Tatis, lf
Church, rf
Santos, c
Reed, cf
Castillo, 2b
Redding, rhp

It's like an ode to the Art Howe days.

LaRussa should sit Pujols or something.

Castillo: "I'm batting eighth?"

Vic Sage
Jun 22 2009 03:28 PM

you're right... he should be batting 9th.

Valadius

That looks like a Dallas Green lineup.

SteveJRogers
Jun 22 2009 05:20 PM

Joe Torre and Casey Stengel also qualify with that lineup!

Jun 22 2009 05:32 PM

The lineup scoffs at the collective lack of faith by throwing up two in the first.

I'm watching via Slingbox on my son's iPod Touch in the waiting room of a hospital. Coolest app ever.

Omir Santos situation splits are nuts. The smell of baserunners turns him from mild-mannered Tim Spehr into line-drive smashing Mike Piazza.

Mets.com has Misch's # as ---

C'mon, Charlie, give the boy some digits!

Pujols 0-2 against Tim Redding. Tatis batting cleanup.

Omir hits with nobody on.

We are through the looking glass.

Luis Castillo swings 2-0 and goes the opposite way with power.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jun 22 2009 06:43 PM

I think Fernando might be a bit confused as to the meaning of "cleanup."

(Although GIDPs are a pretty novel way to assay the LOB issue.)

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jun 22 2009 06:50 PM

Smoked liner, anyone?

Pujols' shot looked like it would've pinned Wright to the LF wall, Warner-Brothers-style, if he'd gotten in front of it.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jun 22 2009 06:53 PM

Yeah, that's why you don't throw a curve for a strike at 1-2. (Especially not one of yours, Tim. No offense.)

seawolf17
Jun 22 2009 07:14 PM

Okay. Seriously, Mets? It's fucking JUNE. PUT A GODDAMN CAMERA IN THE GODDAMN BULLPEN.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jun 22 2009 07:18 PM

Redding mostly clean through 7.

This squad better get the most out of its 7th-inning stretch, since with at least one more dance with Pujols awaits, it's two innings of white-knuckle time.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jun 22 2009 07:25 PM

Omir goes Moses Malone!

Crunch time as Jerry brings in Stokes to face Mr. Poo Holes. Gary keeps calling him "El Hombre" which I find odious.

Slightly screwball-y fastball gets Schumaker.

It doesn't work on Tyler Greene (PHing for Rasmus).

Pujols coming to bat. Stokes (not K-Rod?) in for Pujols-wrangling. Ding ding.

(I think this is the year when everyone's decided Pujols needs a nickname.)

Nobody puts Creepy Sun Baby in a corner.

Pujols had a chance to earn his nickname from me there. He's not getting "Hombre" now.

Wow, Razor Shines has a hair trigger and the Mets get a run on an RBI single by Cora.

Hang in there, Mets! One more inning!

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr

Razor's one for two tonight. And I think I'll call Cora "hombre."

Yep. "Hombre" it is. Go ahead and stop me, media.

(And shucks, Fman.)

I can't believe they sent Castillo there with no outs. A good throw and he's out by a mile. It was pretty damn close even on a bad throw from the centerfielder.

I would have taken my chances with bases loaded and no outs with Murphy, Wright, and Beltran waiting to hit.

Well, it worked out, but I still think it was a bad decision by Razor Shines.

Increasingly I am of the opinion that Razor Shines is an exceedingly nice guy with little-to-no depth perception.

Omir could've been out at the plate too, earlier in the game, had Molina made the catch on that throw. The throw came in ahead of the runner.

Oh crap. You really know how to spoil a guys day. Just checked Mets.com and saw the bad news. I've been on vacation and basically haven't kept up with the Mets (or anything else) much in the past week. Just turned tonights game on in the seventh and been watching sporadically while unloading the car.

Yay! We win.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 22 2009 08:18 PM

It was a nice game no matter who played it.

I'm standing by my 19-1 prediction, even if I'm already off by at least 1.

Even though it's closing in on midnight and the game's been over for nearly two hours, Tony LaRussa just changed pitchers again.
Stay tuned for further updates.
