IGT--Yankees @ Mets, 06/27/09

METS:
Alex Cora SS
Argenis Reyes 2B
David Wright 3B
Ryan Church RF
Gary Sheffield LF
Daniel Murphy 1B
Jeremy Reed CF
Brian Schneider C
Tim Redding RHP (1-2, 6.08)

I thought Reyes might start instead of Cora since he hasn't had a day off since his return. Maybe tomorrow.

Other than that the lineup is as expected against the RHP.

This raspy a-hole. On the pre-game. Is making. My head hurt.

(Is this Chris Carton?)

The Cap'n and the Caveman out with the flu after sharing a sippy cup, or something. Jorge the chinless is back, however. Here's the rogues gallery:

B Gardner CF
N Swisher RF
M Teixeira 1B
A Rodriguez 3B
R Cano 2B
J Posada C
M Cabrera LF
R Pena SS
A Burnett P

Redding nibbling, walks Swisher and Teixiera after getting Gardner to pop up, and Rodriguez has a chance to get a hit that actually matters.

OlerudOwned
Jun 27 2009 05:18 PM

I don't like not liking Mets, but watching Tim Redding pitch probably causes me more discomfort than any visual experience. The nibbling. The niiiibbling.

Swan Swan H
Jun 27 2009 05:19 PM

Rodriguez does what he does best, fly out in a big situation. Robby Cano (and Tyler, too) up with two down, 1st & 3rd.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jun 27 2009 05:19 PM

Schneider's glove is bouncing around like he's indicating sing-a-long lyrics.

Redding's command is crap to start this inning... a few more like this, and it'll be all over, very quickly.

Nymr83
Jun 27 2009 05:22 PM

Cano is saved by a yankee fan in the front row ona foul ball, but then strikes out anyway.

Swan Swan H
Jun 27 2009 05:22 PM

A textbook mook Yankee fan knocks away a pop-up from Wright, but Redding is way more man than Cano and blows a fastball past him to end the inning scoreless.

OlerudOwned
Jun 27 2009 05:23 PM

I like to fancy myself an easy-going and reasonable person, but would somebody kick that motherfucking douche-faced mongoloid mook of a Yankee fan's ass until he's shitting out of his own mouth.

Or, you know, just eject him from the premises.

Swan Swan H
Jun 27 2009 05:25 PM

I defer to OO in his description of the mookness of the mook in question.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jun 27 2009 05:27 PM

I say any time you can get the worst-hitting member of your team some extra at-bats by hitting him 2-hole, you've got to make that call.

Jerry rationalizes this by assuming that if Cora ever gets on base again Reyes can move him over with a bunt, whether the situation calls for it or not.

Also, there'd be beard-rubbing, and probably a hearty laugh, and something vague like "I think he can get some good at-bats in there, maybe get going a little."

As long as it isn't game-impacting, I hope Burnett gets on at some point tonight; he seems like the kind of guy who would pull a Wang on the basepaths.

Teixeiria makes a really annoying face when he bats. Yes, I know I've reduced myself to the simple judgment of "I don't like his face." No, I don't even care.

We need a big game from Church and Sheff and so far both look like shit at the plate.
For that matter so does everyone else in the lineup tonight.
Its early yet....

Ya know, this bothers me too, and I was starting to think maybe I'm just being an old fashioned, cause I see this one hand stuff alot anymore.
With David its the swiping the glove down after the catch that equally bothers me, cause I know someday he will flub one of those, and it better not be because of that swiping his glove down business.

Hope it just pops out before he swipes it.

Whats the logic in not using 2 hands?

This is why I never go to this game (the Saturday home Subway Series game, that is), even though I have a ticket as part of the Saturday plan every year. A win, fine. A loss, burning hell.

As I am writing this, I swear to you, I get a text from my daughter telling me she got in a fight in the ladies room with a drunk Yankee fan. She said the woman acted like she wanted to get physical until my daughter stepped up, and the Yankee fan backed off. My daughter is 5'3, about 110 pounds. Jayzus.

The sight of Yankee fans in the Mets' ballpark, whether Shea or Citi, makes me nauseous. And, honestly, Mets fans acting like fools at Yankee Stadium doesn't thrill me either. I know Interleague play isn't going anywhere, but if it ended tomorrow I'd love it, and I'd say that if the Mets won six a year every year.

And now I have to go to work, because some customer decided at 8:30 on a Saturday night that they needed something done at 11:00, and I'm on call, and I have to go do it. Good thing I don't drink.

Well walking is a good place to start. We're missing a lot of good at-bats with the men on the DL, but they were at least grinding better a week ago. Yeah, they ran into three All Star pittchers, but fundamentals like taking a strike in the ninth (Wright) if the tying run is behind you would be nice to see.

Thirded. (Although some of the Phillies games have started to reach a similar women-fighting-women/adults-taunting-children level of nastiness.)

Additionally, though I've seen my share of douches in blue and orange, I'm pretty sure you don't see any Met fan high-fiving any other Met fan about interfering with an opposing player's pursuit of a foul ball... then verbally taunting the player about the other fan's successful interference.
