Churchie a late scratch.

Edgy DC
Jun 28 2009 05:35 PM

I'm in a tinkernig mood, so I'm going to suggest they respond to the Churchless Sunday by boppping Castillo up to leadoff, dropping Moiphy to third, and bumping Wright and Sheffield back.

I assume that Reed comes in and bats eighth.

bmfc1

I would have done what you suggested, Edgy.

I think I'm going to enjoy Fernando's work in the outfield. Next year.

This is just fugly.

Edgy DC
Jun 28 2009 06:27 PM

It's cool. It just took six outs, that's all.

Bring on Wang.

Nymr83
Jun 28 2009 06:28 PM

Morgan thinks most batters averages are better with the bases empty, except the "great rbi men"

NL average bases empty: .255
NL average with runner(s) on: .261
AL: .259
AL w/ runners: .271

sorry, joe.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 28 2009 06:28 PM

Now, to eat some Wang.

Edgy DC
Jun 28 2009 06:30 PM

Everybody takes a strikie until I say so.

Elster88
Jun 28 2009 06:31 PM

Wang sucks. I wonder if a lineup of minor leaguers is what he needs to get himself right.

Elster88
Jun 28 2009 06:32 PM

Reyes taking some infield and batting practice. Huh. I saw on the ticker during a soccer game that he won't be back until after the ASB. But shouldn't the break be like next week or something?

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 28 2009 06:36 PM

Nice camerawork on the Sheff single. Hats off to ESPN.

Nymr83
Jun 28 2009 06:39 PM

Wang is going to right himself tonight against these clowns. Tatis just went hacking at a 2-0 pitch and popped up to right

bmfc1
Jun 28 2009 06:42 PM

Why would Jerry replace Church w/Tatis rather than Reed? Tatis isn't hitting and he's a poor fielder, as shown by his fumbling the ball in the first. At least Reed can field.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 28 2009 06:44 PM

Perhaps we can trade Livan to a contender.

More seriously, he was likely looking for any hint of power he could find.

metsguyinmichigan
Jun 28 2009 06:53 PM

Phillips and Morgan going on and on about the prowess of ARod, failing to mention that his entire career is now under the shadow of PED use.

Elster88
Jun 28 2009 06:54 PM

Miller getting hot and bothered describing ARod's workout routine. They failed to mention whether the HGH injection comes before or after the one hour swim.

Mets give the MFY's two extra outs in the first inning and Wang looks like Cy Fucking Young tonight!

Too many MFYLDB's at Citi this weekend.

Miller, Morgan and The Grudge are as bad as any local hacks announcing games anywhere.

Livan can't be shaken but where will the Metsies find runs tonight?

I hope that's not the reason since their slugging is about the same. Manuel doesn't seem to do much right sometimes. Maybe he's reading so I'll say this again: lefties are hitting .429 against Wang.

on WFAN they just said that Perez had a good outing for Brooklyn tonight. i know its short-season A against guys who were drafted in the late rounds a couple of weeks ago but its SOMETHING, right?

just checked the brooklyn site, 5 innings, 6 ks, 1 walk, 2 hits, 0 runs. dont see a pitch count anywhere

Elster88
Jun 28 2009 07:10 PM

Only Jeter with his limited range could make that look like a good play.

Agreed and I said so at the top of the thread, although I'm sure Jerry would argue that where their slugging percentages sit right now doesn't really describe the relative power of Tatis and Reed.

Now who's bunting?

Nymr83
Jun 28 2009 09:00 PM

Wright gets a 4 pitch walk.

I wouldnt send him with Sheff up there, but if Sheff gets out i'd have him running.

John Cougar Lunchbucket

Sheff'll bunt here, just watch. It's Jerryball!

Yes. Only Sunday night is an exclusive deal.
In fact, it'll most likely be blacked out on ESPN stations in the NYC area.

We're not using that term, Jon. Maybe you could lurk around here a bit more like the SNY crew does.

A. Rubin NYDN:
As for why K-Rod threw a strike to Derek Jeter with two on and two out in the ninth inning Sunday, Manuel said that was a mistake. The idea was for Omir Santos to set up way off the plate and see if Jeter would chase, but K-Rod missed the spot and threw a strike. Manuel knows Jeter is relatively patient, but he just wanted to see if the Yankees captain would swing at an awful pitch before conceding the at-bat.
Manuel recalled the Cubs-White Sox rivalry, when Sammy Sosa was so intent on driving in a run with two in scoring position, first base open and the pitcher up next, "He swung at pitches almost in the dugout." Manuel also noted that Carlos Lee while with the White Sox had no discipline once a player reached scoring position.

it makes sense because perhaps with Rivera on deck Jeter would be ordered (or think for himself) to try and hit pitches out of the zone because you'd rather try and hit a single on a pitch off the plate than have Rivera come up.
