Argenis F. Reyes 1st and Castillo 8th?

Yeah, that makes sense.

If I didn't know the Mets were gonna sweep this series convincingly I'd be out there leading the Fire Jerry NOW!!! bandwagon.

That lineup is just sad.

I don't think we'll see a Jerry firing before the end of the season at the earliest. Despite the many inexplicable decisions he's been making, he'll get slack because the injuries will be blamed for the losses.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 29 2009 02:40 PM

Plus he's going to get all the credit when we reel off 11 in a row, which is any day now.

No, sir.

THIS is some gangsta shit (he offers, along with the disclosure that he generally has fluctuating levels of respect for Ozzie Guillen).

]Sox manager Ozzie Guillen was asked why attendance was so low for the Dodgers series.

"Because our fans are not stupid like Cubs fans," Guillen said. "They know we're [expletive]."

Luis Castillo's OBP this year against RHP: .383.

Argenis Reyes' [u:e60fc1fdd6]LIFETIME[/u:e60fc1fdd6] OBP: .252.

Seriously, I wonder sometimes if Jerry remembers that the object of the game is to WIN.

Edgy DC
Jun 29 2009 04:48 PM

It's clear that he knows something about Argenis that we don't.

It may also be something that God doesn't know either.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jun 29 2009 05:38 PM

Isn't a shortstop either.

bmfc1
Jun 29 2009 06:00 PM

The ESPN feeds not on in NY, right? Orel Hershiser must think we're stupid:

They put up a graphic of the top offensive duos, "25 and under" (Braun, Felder, etc.). Hershiser goes: if you're wondering why Kevin Youkilis isn't on the list, it's because he's older than 25.

I didn't grasp that from the title of the graphic! The concept was too confusing. Thanks, Orel!

Double-switch here? Killing your defense while burning a potential pinch-hitter is kind of... um... what's the word I'm looking for?

Oh, yeah-- DUMB.

Of course, so is sending a slow pitcher on a shallow fly on any OF not named, "Johnny Damon."

Nice gun out of Churchie, though.

Castillo has failed in 2 bid spots tonight, i dont mind a double switch so Dessens can pitch longer but pulling Castillo (who despite the famous error is sure handed) for tatis means we're likely to see more of our recent infield error issues pop up tonight.

BREAKING: Surgery for Beltran?

beltrancu.jpg
(UPDATED) MILWAUKEE -- In a ominous-sounding move, Mets New York Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran Carlos Beltran flew to Vail, Colo., today for a second opinion on his ailing right knee from the inventor of microfracture surgery.

The Mets confirmed that Beltran was in Colorado to have the knee checked out by Dr. Richard Steadman, the surgeon who devised microfracture surgery in the 1990s to mimic missing cartilage.

Beltran has been on the disabled list since last Monday with what the Mets described as a bone bruise in his knee. If Beltran ends up having microfracture surgery, he would miss the rest of the season, at the least.

The surgery, which involves drilling holes in the knee so that blood and bone marrow clot to form new cartilage, has been done on numerous NFL and NBA players.

Among the notable NBA players to have the surgery are Amare Stoudamire, Tracy McGrady and Greg Oden. The success rate has varied, with some players -- most notably basketballers Jamal Mashburn and Terrell Brandon -- forced to retire.

Beltran was steered to Steadman for a second opinion by his agent, Scott Boras, with no backlash from the Mets.

"It's a group decision that they want to have another view of it," Mets assistant GM John Ricco said. "With a player of this importance to us, there's no argument on our end to get another look."
