Glad Reed is getting a start, he seems to have been buried on a team that is short-handed.

Tweet from Dave Lennon this morning: lenno212Manuel said he's had 1 July 4 BBQ in the past 25 years. But laughed, "I might be BBQ'ing at this time next year."#mets

After almost every single loss, Jerry makes a joke with the press. I'm so glad that Shecky the manager thinks this is funny. It's not life or death but at least act like you give a crap. Act like you care as much as the fans.

Oh stop wound licking, he gives a crap.

Got a tweet from Fischneritz, confirms that Jerry does indeed care.

Is that a reference to something or someone, or did you just make up a silly sounding twitter account name?

bmfc1
Jul 05 2009 10:59 AM

I'm sure he cares but the daily yuck-fest is pathetic. I'm not suggesting that he turn over tables but I don't like the daily joking around.

It was an accidental/subliminal reference to something, I can't post what, Steve.

And bmfc, it's just a matter of finding different things pathetic. A manager
with a sense of humor and keeping control of an interview however he chooses
to do it and managing not to piss off a scribe or two (which will ultimately bury
you in this town) isn't pathetic.

What's pathetic is the whiny Mets fans on the radio and some internet venues.
I don't know quite how to spell it out, but to me there is a percentage of Mets
fans who I am convinced are more fulfilled when pissed off at the Mets than
when enjoying the good times.

Kong76
Jul 05 2009 11:29 AM

And I don't mean to take it out on you, you got me going with the care as much
as the fans do (crap).

bmfc1
Jul 05 2009 11:34 AM

I understand Kong but listening to Jerry day-after-day making a joke after each loss has worn thin. I don't mind a sense of humor but there's a time and a place and after the poor play, I don't think that this is the time.

Jerry though has always been like this , always with the funny remark. It works better when the team is winning though.

Congrats to Wright and Beltran!

Santana and Frankie, too.

Was sort of hoping that the insane Wimbledon final would just keep going long enough for me to not have to watch this.

Let's go Mets. Please.

Lead off homer for Rollins, right as my pessimistic other post was going up. Oy vey.

Gwreck
Jul 05 2009 11:48 AM

Also Santana and Rodriguez, who were voted in by the players.

Might have been the most enjoyable final I have watched since Edberg beat Becker in a thriller in 1990.

the linedrive doubleplay has become a Mets specialty

Had to leave for dimsum brunch midway through the fourth set; came back after a LONG meal, and it was just halfway through the fifth. I feel kinda terrible for Roddick, who played about as smart a fortnight as he ever has (I've never seen him USE his second serves as well)... and ended up running into the best player of all time, who just barely outlasted him. He looked throughout the trophy presentation like he'd just seen his parents doing it on Centre Court.

I remember catching Edberg-Becker as a kid, too. But last year's was pretty decent as well.

mario25 only shows up around here when the Mets are playing badly.

Why are the Phils wearing the Cubs' batting helmets?

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 05 2009 12:35 PM

Jesus, I don't remember Rapuano ever getting this squeezy on all sides of the strike zone. (And against Johan, no less. It's weird.)

Benjamin Grimm
Jul 05 2009 12:38 PM

It's all so confusing, with the Mets wearing red caps and the Phillies wearing blue batting helmets. I'm only casually paying attention, and whenever I look up at the TV screen, I think the Mets, when they're in the field, are the Phillies.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr

Since when has Sam Perlozzo been Philly's third-base coach?

That sucks.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 05 2009 12:49 PM

How will this rally fall short?

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 05 2009 12:51 PM

After the leadoff walk to Castillo (7-14 lifetime against Blanton... and batting 8th)Johan squirts a funt past a diving Blanton and non-diving Howard.

Cora sacs 'em over. 2nd and 3rd for Muffy and Sugarpants.

I'm curious to see how this falls apart.

EDIT: JCL-Ha.

YOUR MOVE, CREEP

Muffy walks, keeping the DP option alive but eliminating back-to-back strikeouts.

Murphy, it's you.

The Mets are making me suck too.

Mistakes up will do that to you.

It seems to not matter who goes up to bat , a double play will be the outcome.

Edgy DC
Jul 05 2009 01:53 PM

Shoud, I guess, have given Wright a day off. The whole series turned out to be as good as a weekend off for him.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 05 2009 01:58 PM

Absolutely humiliating.

We hit a triple play of suck in this series: Shitty starting pitching (Game 1), horrendous fielding gaffes (Game 2) and terribly inept offense (Games 1-3).

The Phillies, like the MFYs when we saw them last, were struggling big-time until we played 'em.

Kong76

I hate to say it before the all-star break, but this season is o.v.e.r.

SteveJRogers
Jul 05 2009 02:56 PM

I'm inching towards that Kase. It has gotten to the point though where the only thing to look forward to the rest of the way is the 40th Anniversary of the 1969 World Champs in August.

Unless changes are made.

Nymr83
Jul 05 2009 03:16 PM

the Mets have made it feel like they were DONE for the last month, but they're still only 4 back. its pretty clear that Jerry Manuel, after looking good last year, is a terrible in-game decision maker, i'd be all for firing him and his entire staff.

Edgy DC
Jul 05 2009 03:33 PM

Plus five key players due off the DL in the second half. Six if you count Wagner.

They just need to find a way to pretend to be a team until then.

(They also need most of those guys to come back performing well. Ahem. That, too.)

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 05 2009 03:55 PM

Kong76

SJJ: I'm inching towards that Kase <<<

Don't inch too close, I don't want to get any Yankee on me.

Namor: its pretty clear that Jerry Manuel, after looking good last year, is a terrible in-game decision maker, i'd be all for firing him and his entire staff <<<

I don't care if they back up the truck and get rid of everyone
but the manager's righty-lefty decisions, pitching change decisions,
lineup decisions, and whatever in game freakin' decisions everyone
has issues with ain't gonna get the Mets more than two hits in some games,
ain't gonna make players make routine plays, ain't gonna stop blown saves, or
stop players from not knowing where to run and when, and it certainly ain't gonna
bring back anyone quicker from the DL.

How's that for a run on?

And let's not forget inning ending double plays. Jerry, 24/7.
