The Kingsport Mets, home away from home of many of your new adoptees, open with a 7-5 win over the Johnson City Cardinals. The game featured a comeboack from a 4-0 deficit as starter Guillaume Leduc of Montreal battled back from a shakey start to go five, and also a homer from Tyler "Don't 'Art' Me" Howe.

This team's got a LOT of small-forwards/swingmen.

Malek was a former NYM draft pick. A speedy-type OFer who looked for a while like he was going to make it but I guess has moved on.

Limerickize your K-Mets

A catcher dude named Michael Moras
Hopes that he one day plays for us
To hit, catch and throw
Up here in the show
With a bonus drawn up by Scott Boras

Jeff Flagg is from Mississippi State
Where he hit just <a href="http://www.mstateathletics.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=16800&ATCLID=944225" target="_blank">.288</a>
He majored in gym
So he knows how to swim
But will his size translate at the plate?

A lefty here named Thomas Chism
Suffers not from gigantism
He's short and wears 10!
It's like Hampton again!
I hear he doctors the ball with his jism

There once was a catcher named Howe
With a familiar arch to his brow
He's no son of Art
But he can sure play the part
And he'll do so in Kingsport for now

From the good old DR, Julio Bello
He's a lanky, live-arm-ed young fellow;
Perhaps, with that name,
If burned out on the game,
He could bottle and sell limoncello.

A pitcher named Armando Rodriguez
who conjures up visions
of Rich and Benitez
like Rich wears number 46
I hope he pitches better than Benitez

The hurler known as Von Tersch
Has a repetoire large and diverse
Fastball or curve?
Change-up or slurve
He can't decide which is worse

Have you met Eduardo Aldama
The reliever who never lacks drama
His fastball is scary
His slider is hairy
And his change could outdo Obama

Zachary Rosenbaum the 6'4" pitcher
who sounds like a
different kind of practitioner
hearts will go a flutter
when Rosenbaum toes the rubber
he'll give DeFelice angina

The skinny young pitcher named Needham
Like a trained seal got people to see him
While his pitching was fine
The crowds waited in line
To see trainers just try and feed him

I looked up Von Tersch most querelously
He's named for Zachary Taylor --- seriously!
A lad of his age
With a <a href="http://www.geocities.com/beesball/vontersch.html" target="_blank">Geocities page</a>
Is heading towards Nerdsville, most perilously

A pitcher named Giullaume Leduc
Heard from DeFelice frequent rebuke
On the mound he'd drop trou
And at night tip a cow
Yes, the guy was a bit of a kook

There was a young fielder Zapata
Played center the way a kid oughta
Although speedy as hell
Didn't dress near as well
His cravattes looked much more like shmattes

A scrappy vet named Mike DiFelice
Staved off unconditional release
By working with youth
And to tell you the truth
To make his pension complete

To keep investments from going to hell they
Made him work each night with Mike Pelfrey
They rewarded this work
With the super plum perk
Of making Kingsport very swell play

/throws down pen, quits poetry forever
