Knicks still suck 2009-2010

Kong76
Jun 24 2009 05:50 PM

I looked back a bunch of pages and I don't think I'm carpetbaggin' here.
If there's another page of suck someone bump it and we can get rid of
this one.

The draft tomorrow reminds me that I'd really like to become a Knicks fan
again. It's been so long that this team has just been hopeless.

Can they be finally turning some kind of corner?

With the 8th pick in the 2009 NBA draft, the New York Knicks select.... Jordan Hill , a 6'10" forward from Arizona.

the crowd boo'd the fuck out of the building when Stephen Curry went 7th.

Well, you gotta have a lot of point guards, or you're gonna have a lot of turnovers.

Add another one: three picks, three PGs.

The Knicks got busy after drafting Hill, they traded Richardson for 7'0 Center Darko Milicic, the #2 pick in the 2002 draft who has never lived up to that spot. He also has an expiring contract.

I've been reading some bad things about Hill tonight, but Walsh deserves the beneit of the doubt, right?

metirish
Jun 26 2009 06:29 AM

I've been reading some good things about him, the guy in the Daily News today thinks it's the right move. Walsh has one one eye on next off season I would think.

I give Walsh the benefit of doubt here. In Donnie I trust.

A Nets fan here. Since I'm probably the only one on the CPF, there probably shouldn't be a second basketball thread.

Lost in all the draft buzz was news that the hurdles have been removed toward the real estate deal that will lead to the construction of the downtown Brooklyn arena.

The Carter deal was to free up cap room. And it did.
Now LeBron James will have a nice place to play when he signs with the Nets.

From something, I forgot to take notice and credit ...

The best Hill moment from Friday was when he mentioned how he remembered when the Knicks had Patrick Ewing and Charles Oakley and were good. Asked how old he was when he formed those memories, Hill answered "5 or 6."

I liked the pick.

Hill seems to be built on defensive aggression, which is sorely lacking on this team. My only concern is that he happens to play the same position as David Lee, who has been this team's MVP the last 2 seasons and a player i really like. But Lee doesn't do much on D, and if his contract demands require him to be moved, I'm glad they have Hill.

Also, Milicic is perfect for D'Antoni's system. If he can't make it here this time, he should be dropkicked back into Eastern Europe. He certainly gives us more options than Q-Rich does, who is pretty much finished.

As for Douglas, he seems like a more defensive minded version of Robinson, a combo guard who can get his own shot. Which, like Hill with Lee, makes Robinson's upcoming big contract expendable. Unlike Lee, however, I would drive Robinson to the airport myself.

I'm still hopeful that we can work out a deal for Rubio. A PG who can distribute like that may be alot more appealing to free agents next season.

But til then:

- DUHON / HUGHES / GALLINARI / LEE** / CURRY***
- ROBINSON** / CHANDLER / HARRINGTON / HILL* / MILICIC
- DOUGLAS*, JEFFRIES***

+ Mobley's $9.5m contract this season

* = rookies
** = restricted FAs
*** = guaranteed contracts for next 2 years

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr

The Jeffries deal is the gift that just keeps on giving.

(Or was that the Curry deal?)

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jun 29 2009 11:03 AM

I forget exactly how bad Isaiah Thomas was at his job sometimes.

And then I look at the roster, and remember that you could purchase a major-league team (albeit one like the Royals) for the amount of money that he wasted in a five-year period.

Jun 29 2009 11:24 AM

All I want is a team that competes on a nightly basis, with an eye towards the future.

Vic do you think D'Antoni cares that Hill plays defense , I think Nate will be gone, I don't think the coach cares much for him , personally i don't like him at all.

Knicks summer league performance so far (0-2) maintains their impressive level of Knick suckitude. Here's the info: http://www.nba.com/summerleague2009/tea ... eam=knicks

Points of interest regarding our draft picks:

* Jordan Hill has shown a surprisingly soft touch but also surprisingly soft overall.

* Toney Douglas is an honest-to-goodness point guard. He doesn't show much of a shot yet, but he is showing all kinds of PG skillz, including defensive intensity. Duhon won't have to play 40+ minutes a night.

As for the retreads, ne'er-do-wells, and assorted almost-wases filling out the roster and competing for the 3 "injured reserve" roster slots:

* Morris Almond and Joe Crawford are showing a shooting touch at shooting guard, where we have a need

* Nikoloz Tskitishvili is a 7-footer with 3pt range. Interesting...

* Patrick Ewing jr is hurt and not playing. too bad.

Vic , I am confused as to WTF is going on with David Lee. I thought he would be snapped up by now , do the Knicks want him?

Nymr83
Jul 17 2009 11:18 AM

competing for the 3 "injured reserve" roster slots

the NBA should just extend the roster 2-3 spots, eliminate the (un)injured reserve, and make an injured list that requires anyone put on it to be out for the year.

As for David Lee, I think the Knicks would like him back, but only at the "right" price, a price which doesn't interfere with the "summer of Lebron"

Vic Sage
Jul 20 2009 10:06 AM

They want Lee back, and they've made him a "qualifying offer" to insure that they have matching rights, and the right to draft compensation should they lose him, but they're not going to bid against themselves. They seem him as a "complimentary" rather than "core" player (i strongly disagree).

The only other team seriously still interested is Greece, and it remains to be seen if Lee's agent is just playing that up to get a better deal from the Knicks. He might sign a 1-year deal, then become an UFA next season. Same with Nate Robertson.

As for Summer League, the Knicks went a perfect 0-5.

As noted, Hill seems more of a project, especially on the defensive end, than i anticipated (he averaged 6 PFs per game).

Douglas is a legit PG, but i don't know if he can shoot, since he didn't show much shooting touch this past week. But he's a tenacious defender, which is a relief.

The players who put themselves in the best position to fill out the Knicks 3 remaining roster slots included Morris Almond and Niklos Tskitishvili, and maybe Joe Crawford (again).

A jump shot's not THAT important in this O for the point. Ideally, he'll develop at least a decent finger-roll/runner kinda thing-- the ideal D'Antoni point guard has this at least in his arsenal to draw interior defenders' interest.

The Knicks are in serious discussions with the Rockets about Tracy McGrady:
The New York Knicks are getting closer to reaching the Houston Rockets’ demands for Tracy McGrady(notes) and his $23 million expiring contract, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Knicks and Rockets have designed the framework of a deal that would unload New York’s Jared Jeffries(notes), Jordan Hill(notes) and either Al Harrington(notes) or Larry Hughes(notes) for McGrady, Joey Dorsey(notes) and Brian Cook(notes). As talks stood on Monday, the price of dumping the burdensome contract of Jeffries – who is owed $6.9 million next season – comes with the Knicks and Rockets exchanging 2011 first-round picks and the Knicks’ 2012 first-round choice going to Houston. New York also might include a 2010 second-round pick. The Utah Jazz own the Knicks’ first-round pick in 2010.
Awful, awful, awful trade. As soon as I see Jordan Hill and draft picks in there, I gotta shoot it down. We spent way too long trying to get under the cap so we could properly build a team, and then we mortgage the future for a guy who gets injured every time he sneezes? No thank you.

If this means the Knicks end up with Lebron and Wade or Bosh and Wade then its worth it, screw the picks... but what happens if the big free agents stay where they are? the Knicks have lost two more first rounders and their #8 overall pick from this past year.

The agreement reached Thursday contains a non-disparagement between Izod and Prudential, with the Newark arena focusing on sports and the Izod Center concentrating on concerts and family shows.

Re: Knicks still suck 2009-2010

I watched the overtime of Knicks and Bobcats last night. The Knicks lost of course but it was at the least fun to watch, now that doesn't mean that the play was crisp and brilliant because it wasn't but there was a buzz about the place . McGrady played well, Lee was great and House too.

The Knicks attempted 18 3-pointers tonight. They made none of them. That is a new NBA record. Un-fucking-believable.

[quote="metirish":s1fhbasj]The Knicks are unwatchable and but for a handful of players so is the league. The product is terrible and I can't remember the last time I tuned in for a game.[/quote:s1fhbasj] This.

Sorry I missed it, too. But for different reasons. I'm lovin' it. Later

Clyde sounded high all night, but that's his usual M.O. anyway.

As I've said many times, when I was a kid I wanted to be either Clyde or Seaver. I'd still like to be Frazier, Seaver can lick it.
