Out until Monday too....taking our son to Hospital for Special Surgery first thing tomorrow morning for an MRI and the plans for the weekend include taking him to his first movie....Ice Age , and hoping to go to the Circus out in Long Island Sunday.....

Full day tomorrow, off Friday. Tomorrow after 5 PM I have to call and see if I get to serve the public as a juror starting on Monday. I normally don't mind, since I honestly believe that it's a worthwhile thing to do, but this is in Brooklyn and it's a slog to get there.

Full day tomorrow, then officially off til August 10 though I think I'll be in a few days sooner (this encompasses my trip to Peru from July 11 through August 1).

we were originally scheduled to have a 1/2 day on friday, but i was prevailed upon by the staff to make it a full off day, since its a bank holiday anyway.

Office closed half day today, took the whole day off. It's 75 degrees out, sunny, and I'm posting messages on a baseball board. Happy New Year!

I'm on furlough today. No checking work e-mail or doing any work-related activities from home. The fifth of eighteen such days this academic year. California is broke.

Michigan, especially West Michigan, has a severe lack of Jewish people. Not only do we not get Rosh Hashanah off, the people here have no clue what it is. Kind of a strange place.

Either Sunday-Wednesday or Wednesday to Saturday, all times of day. The key was that we always had three day weekends, either Thursday-Saturday or Sunday-Tuesday, with at least one of the two weekend days off every week. It was great. I used to have the Sunday-Tuesday off schedule during the NFL season so I could stay out late watching Monday Night Football, and then switch back to having Thursday-Saturday off the other times of the year.

I was on a four-day workweek from 1999 through 2002. (10 hours by 4 days). It was a drag working the ten-hour days, but it was great having Fridays off, especially since my daughter was born in 2001. We saved a lot of money on day care during that most expensive first year.

When gas was over $4 a gallon, we toyed with the idea of working four days with half the office taking Friday or Monday. Idea died quickly.

Working on Columbus Day. Quiet -- a few contractors about but the gov't folks are all off today. Could've taken the day but would have had to use my own PTO. Thanks anyway.

We're closed today. I get the sense this holiday is kinda dying, I know a lot of people who are working and schools are largely open. Hell, they even picked up the garbage this morning ... I'm sure five years ago the garbage men had off for Columbus Day.

It actually surprises me that any are. The fact that this holiday morphed over the years from a celebrate America's discovery day to an Italian-American pride thing means I don't think it's going to shrivel up and go away anytime soon. Ethnic identity type days are going to be jealously guarded by their own groups and therefore by politicians courting those groups not to mention public sector unions (where most of the unions are these days) wanting to protect paid off-days.

Working. Enjoyed the light morning traffic. I haven't worked for a company that closed on Columbus Day in almost 20 years. For me, Columbus Day has become one of those holidays where the upside is lighter than usual traffic, and the downside is the slight inconvenience of no mail delivery. And that only matters in the rare cases where I'm expecting something other than junk mail.

All schools are open today. Working and extremely busy today. Truthfully, i had no idea todays was a holiday until I saw this thread. I'll have to take note to see if the banks are open on my drive back to the office after lunch.

I am off until Tuesday, Monday is a state holiday here in PA. But I am going in for a bit on Monday to ship something to one of our customers in the Netherlands that apparantly doesn't understand American holidays.

Working today and yesterday both. Both days are paid holidays at my place, so it's a real cash grab. 8 hours paid for each day, whether I'm here or not, plus 12 hours of my regular shift on each day at a bloated holiday rate of pay. Almost bummed I'm not working Christmas.
