Agreed on corneal scratches. Highly disagreed on carnal scratches (unless said scratches take place in or around the ocean).

It doesn't take much to cause pain when the eye is involved, particularly the cornea. The cornea is one of the most innervated and highly sensitive parts of the body. Luckily, it heals much faster than most other body tissues as well. So the pain and discomfort can be be quite intense, but generally it won't last too long. Hang in there and I wish you a speedy recovery. Oh and whatever you do, don't lick any flag poles this winter.
