SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, JUNE 2009

The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for June 2009 is DAVID WRIGHT. David was the Mets dominant offensive player in June. He was the only Met to play in all 27 games, and led the team with 104 at bats, 18 runs, 38 hits (15 ahead of runner-up Ryan Church), 11 doubles, and 8 stolen bases. His .365 batting average also led the team (Church was next, with .307) and his .380 slugging and .380 OBP topped Gary Sheffield's .506 and .329. Wright's 12 runs batted in were second to Brian Schneider's 14 and his 2 home runs were actually enough to finish second on the Mets (tied with Carlos Beltran and Brian Schneider) behind Sheffield's 5.

The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month in June is LIVAN HERNANDEZ, a first-time winner. Livan was 1-2 with a 3.69 ERA in 6 starts. Among Mets starters, only Fernando Nieve (3-1, 2.25) had a better ERA, but with only 4 starts, he had fewer opportunities to accumulate Schaefer points. After an outstanding May, June was a poor month for Mets starters, with John Maine sidelined and Mike Pelfrey and Johan Santana both turning in ERA's over 6.00. Tim Redding (1-1, 4.99) led the team with 20 strikeouts.

And the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is, for the first time, SEAN GREEN. Sean pitched 15 innings in 15 games, allowing 11 hits, 4 walks, and he struck out 11. He was 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA. He edged last month's winner, Francisco Rodriguez, who was 0-2 in June with 6 saves and a 2.25 ERA in 12 games.

][David's] .365 batting average also led the team ... and his .380 slugging and .380 OBP

That should be .529 & .432

I mean, we all know his slugging is down this year but I had to double-check that one.

You're right about the slugging, that should have been .529, but I stand by the .380. (At least, for now.) David had 38 hits, 2 walks, 1 HBP, and one SF in 104 at bats.

(38 + 2 + 1) / (104 + 2 + 1+ 1) = 0.3796.

Where did you get your .432 from?

12 walks, not 2.

Happy for Sean Green

The real question is: is that the last we hear of Emil Brown before he fades into footnotery, doomed to forever be conflated with Ben Johnson.

Damn fine cards. Are those the first shot at Citi Field? I thought Frankie was in a road uni.

ETA: Went back and saw Frankie in the home whites, but the Citi Field background is pronounced for the first time with Sean. In any event, characteristically superb job. These cards brighten my day every month when they appear.

Thanks, G.

Meanwhile, I seem to have discovered that the box scores I've been pasting from have been underreporting walks and strikeouts, which is why David Wright's OBP was wrong in the initial post.

I guess I'll have to get this straightened out at some point.
