cooby, I'm going to lay in the hammock with an ice cold Tecate. So if the Mets don't pull this game out, it isn't my fault. I'm doing all I can for the cause.

If it works, I will personally write a letter to your partners and staff and tell them you are going to have to have the rest of the baseball season off so you can lie in your hammock!

Also, I am doing my part by having soupcan's lucky snack of oyster crackers

I could care less if it's over for us.I wanna kick the piss out of these flyover country pumped-up bumpkins and their know-it-all, vegan, pet-obsessed, shades-wearing manager.

Valadius

Reyes leads off the game with a single.

Valadius
Sep 11 2005 02:22 PM

Reyes stole second. What's that now, 51 on the year?

Valadius
Sep 11 2005 02:24 PM

D-Wright walks. 1st and 2nd, 2 outs, for Marlon Anderson.

Edgy DC
Sep 11 2005 02:26 PM

Nice look, Morris.

Trying to sneak out of the country?

Valadius
Sep 11 2005 02:32 PM

Except for three minor differences, this inning was EXACTLY what I said the usual Mets inning and the reason why we're not winning is.

I said:

Batter singles.
Batter sacrifices, Runner on 2nd, 1 out.
Batter walks.
Batter flies out, 2 outs.
Batter strikes out, 3 outs.

Here's what happened:

Reyes singles.
Reyes steals second.
Matsui pops out, 1 out.
Beltran flies out, 2 outs.
Wright walks.
Anderson strikes out, 3 outs.

Cards cutting to commercial break with "Stepping Out."

Some songs should, by definition, be played only at certain times. That one should be restricted to Friday and Saturday nights.

Rotblatt
Sep 11 2005 02:33 PM

You know what's genius? Batting Marlon Anderson fifth.

With a power lefty like Marlon behind him, they'll pretty much HAVE to throw to Wright.

Yet another coup for the rookie manager of the year.

Cards are charmed right now.

Pedro blows his way out of the inning. Rally song time.

Time has come today
Young hearts can go their way
Can't put it off another day
And I don't care what the others say
'Cause they say we don't listen anyway
Time has come today, Hey!

The rules have changed today, Hey!
I have no place to stay, Hey!
And I'm thinkin' about the subway, Hey!
Love has gone away, Hey!
And tears have come and gone, Hey!
Oh my God! I have to run! Hey!

I have no home, Hey!
I have no home, Hey!

Now the time has come, Time!
There's no place to run, Time!
Might get burned up by the sun, Time!
Well, I've had my fun, Time!
Well, I've been loved and put aside, Time!
And I've been crushed by tumblin' tide, Time!
And my soul's be psychedelicized, Time!

Now the time has come, Time!
There are things to realize, Time!
Time has come today, Time!
Time has come today, Time!

Time!

Now the time has come, Time!
There are things to realize, Time!
Time has come today, Time!
Time has come today, Time!

Time!

Now the time has come, Time!
Time has come today, Time!
Time has come today, Yeah!

I agree that you just dont fill that slot without adjusting the lineup.

Even if the Mets are out of it ya have to go thru the motions of playing to win.

And the guy who should be batting 5th (he or Diaz) drives in the run.

Nice rip Jacobs :D

See, there a difference between seasonal fatigue, which we are talking about in the other thread, and a 9 inning game fatigue.
Pedros ball has lost its movement, and is looking fat.

They used to be a catcher named Hal A Smith.
They called him "Heart Attack" , or HA to differentiate him from another catcher of the same era named Hal Smith. (IIRC Hal W. Smith).
It was meaningful because he had suffered a heart attack.

Looper doesn't get heart attacks.
But he's a carrier.

Advocate improvement, but let's not pretend (a) that this started with Looper, (b) that it'll necessarily end with Looper's banishment, or (c) that alleged Met fans didn't make this worse by demonizing Looper's predecessors.

seawolf17
Sep 12 2005 09:36 AM

Castro's been an offensive catcher his whole career; he's not bad defensively, but he's no Gold Glover either. He hit 27 homers in 390 AB with Calgary in 2001, with an OBP of .393 and an OPS of 1.021.

Elster88

His stats from the minors from four years ago are largely irrelevant, IMHO.

seawolf17
Sep 12 2005 09:48 AM

No, they're relevant, because it shows that he can hit, given full-time duty. He hasn't really been given that chance. He went .259 .338 .569 .907 with four homers and 16 RBI in 58 AB in August; that's respectable near full-time work.

I'm just saying it shows something. I'm not saying that if you gave him 390 ABs right now he'd do the same thing, but he's "only" 30 years old, so he could.
