Wilkerson leads off with a single to center.
|
Rotblatt Sep 15 2005 01:17 PM |
And Carroll doubles to right, moving Wilkerson to third.

It's a day game?
|
Frayed Knot Sep 15 2005 01:32 PM |
Nats get 3 in the top as Seo gets both hit and dinked ... the madness continues.
|
Rotblatt Sep 15 2005 01:33 PM |
Reyes with a home run!
|
Edgy DC Sep 15 2005 01:35 PM |
Big Congratulations to the Seos, who are clearly expecting another baby.
|
Centerfield Sep 15 2005 01:40 PM |
Unbelievable. Guzman goes deep. 4-0 Nats. September sucks.
|
Rotblatt Sep 15 2005 01:41 PM |
Jesus Christ.
|
cooby Sep 15 2005 01:41 PM |
What happened to Reyes HR? Doesn't it count?
|
Centerfield Sep 15 2005 01:42 PM |
Good news is it's starting to rain.
|
Centerfield Sep 15 2005 01:43 PM |
Oops. 4-1 Nats. Sorry about that.
|
Rotblatt Sep 15 2005 01:45 PM |
Carroll with a hit down the left-field line. He tried for two, but Cliff threw him out.

Oh, no, Christian Guzman is up.
|
Elster88 Sep 15 2005 02:15 PM |
Does Cairo in right make any sense? I hate to say this on the heels of the "Willie is/isn't a moron" controversy, but that is just plain foolish.
|
Elster88 Sep 15 2005 02:17 PM |
In the first Fran busted out his "Seo has gained cahnfidence and swagger on the mound and was immediately (like, before he finished his sentence) shot down by Ralph who said it's got nothing to do with that, it's because he gained a curveball and split-finger fastball. Nice retort by Kiner with a minimum of phlegm in his throat.
|
Edgy DC Sep 15 2005 02:19 PM |
Only in the sense that the Mets aren't carrying reserve outfielders except Williams, who hits like an infielder.
|
smg58 Sep 15 2005 02:22 PM |
So if the Norfolk season is over, why isn't Valent up here? Did he get taken off the 40?
|
Elster88 Sep 15 2005 02:22 PM |
40 doubles for Wright. That's a lot for one game.
|
Edgy DC Sep 15 2005 02:26 PM |
Yes.
|
Frayed Knot Sep 15 2005 02:35 PM |
JWS gets his first 1-2-3 inning in the 5th.
|
Edgy DC Sep 15 2005 02:40 PM |
Valent was removed from the 40 May 28th when the Mets recalled Victor Diaz. He was out of options so he had to be removed from the 40 (and clear waivers) to go to Norfolk.
|
Frayed Knot Sep 15 2005 02:43 PM |
3 straight 1-out hits: Jacobs (PHing for Seo), Reyes & Matsui - load the bases and threaten to stir things up here ....

Game day has bit the dust, methinks. Either that or this game is progresing really slowly. How many pitching changes have there been this inning?
|
metirish Sep 15 2005 03:42 PM |
I can't access mets.com, espn gameday is stuck at 4 to 1 Nats, what's the score?

2 impressive (and dare I say; high leverage?) innings for Heilman:

I agree! Good use of Heilman, Willie!

Frayed Knot Sep 15 2005 03:57 PM |
Looks like Bennett (R) - Guzman (Sw I believe) then the pitcher's spot.
|
TheOldMole Sep 15 2005 04:00 PM |
Mets used Heilman for the 7th and 8th because they didn't want to lose till the 9th?

Marlon Ks, Reyes GOs
|
Centerfield Sep 15 2005 04:03 PM |
How are the fans treating Looper?
|
Frayed Knot Sep 15 2005 04:04 PM |
Ryan Zimmerman - Washington's 1st round draft pick this year! (4th overall) PHs. He was a college 3rd baseman. -- 1B to RF + E on Williams and the leadoff runner is on 2nd. Kenny Kelly - briefly Met property runs for Zimmerman.

Would Matsui's ball have been a game-ending DP?

Frayed Knot Sep 15 2005 04:32 PM |
Dunno. I'm only on the radio here.
|
Johnny Dickshot Sep 15 2005 04:32 PM |
Looper's inability to get the job done recently, combined with WWSB's inhuman patience, is a match made in Metfan Hell.
|
Frayed Knot Sep 15 2005 04:34 PM |
Church GOs to 3rd and the runner holds (I was praying for that).
|
Rotblatt Sep 15 2005 04:36 PM |
Maybe Willie WANTS to lose.
|
Edgy DC Sep 15 2005 04:36 PM |
I think the strategy is "Play for the loss at home, play for the debacle on the road."
|
holychicken Sep 15 2005 04:37 PM |
Why the hell did Willie pitch to Castilla? I don't get it. . .
|
Frayed Knot Sep 15 2005 04:37 PM |
Of course we can kill Looper all we want except that Hernandez coughed up 3 hits while really only getting 2 outs.
|
metirish Sep 15 2005 04:38 PM |
This is exasperating, I mean is wasn't that long ago we were only half a game out in the WC, now it's a freefall....

Edgy DC Sep 15 2005 04:40 PM |
Dug-tub it. Let Self bat for Williams.
|
Edgy DC Sep 15 2005 04:41 PM |
Or not. Like I know.
|
Frayed Knot Sep 15 2005 04:41 PM |
The only thing I can think of is that they preferred Castilla over the threat of the lefty hitting Schneider PHing for Osik. But Schneider's been hurt and may or may not have been available.

Self is a lefty and a reeeal firstbaseman.

Frayed Knot Sep 15 2005 04:45 PM |
Castro pops out after 2 failed bunt attempts (no doubt trying to stay out of the DP).

Diaz:

Why was Cairo batting there. I guess Willie didn't notice that we need some offense right now.

15 of 18!

Well, Piazza was burned (although I still hate that he hasn't been occasionally returned to first this season), but Woody and Self were there. I'm so all over the Bobby Valentine movement. (Like I wasn't always there.) Even when I agree with Randolph, his persepctive seems so narrow. Hey, Davey Johnson's almost done with his World Cup obligation. I'm rambling. This is world-class tanking.
|
Johnny Dickshot Sep 15 2005 05:26 PM |
The one thing you could say for Randolph all year is that now matter how many times it appeared we were about to lose 15 of 18, we didn't.

Closer and offense.
|
metsmarathon Sep 15 2005 06:23 PM |
a closer who doesn't offend, and an offense that doesnt keep it close.
|
Scrapple8 Sep 15 2005 07:28 PM Nats 6 Mets 5 (10) |
We did a lot of second guessing in the stands. Why did Castro bunt in the sixth and in the tenth? Cairo and the pinch hitter were on deck in both situations. I'd just as soon have Castro swinging away then move the runners up for the bottom of the lineup. The best logic seemed to be defensive - Castro bunted to stay out of the Double Play. That's a horrible reason to bunt, one generally reserved for pitchers.
|
Valadius Sep 15 2005 08:27 PM |
I've figured it out. It's all my fault.
|
Frayed Knot Sep 15 2005 10:55 PM |
Willie's logic in pitching to Castilla - as I suspected - was that he figured Frank Robbie would counter with a lefty stick, probably Schneider.
|
Edgy DC Sep 15 2005 11:13 PM |
Yeah, well, counter with a lefty arm.
|
Rotblatt Sep 16 2005 08:14 AM |

Welcome back, Scrapple!
Yup. Or we could try and find a closer who can get lefties out. Like Heilman or Robo, for example.
