Mr. Magnet-Head

Why is it that Mike Piazza has a tendency to get beaned in the head? It's happened with Clemens, Mota, and Tavarez. It keeps happening. Why?

I think pitchers feel the need to bust Piazza up and in to keep him from extending his arms. Since Mike has demonstrated the ability to go with an outside pitch and do so with power, it makes it more important to come in on him. I'm guessing that Mike may be slower to bail away from a tight pitch than are other hitters.

Makes some sense, Rockin', but Piazza's deadly on balls in the inner half too. Or was, back in the day.

Now that I think about it, though, maybe it's just on balls down in the inner half. Does that make up and in the way to pitch him?
