UMDB Suggestion: All-Time opponent Interactive Stats
mlbaseballtalk Sep 18 2005 05:47 PM |
Hey Yance,
Edgy DC Sep 18 2005 06:36 PM |
mlbaseballtalk Sep 18 2005 06:51 PM |
I meant a complation of stats amongst the leaders against the Mets, (like the regular interactive stats) not a single guy's record
Benjamin Grimm Sep 18 2005 07:30 PM |
Your suggestion has been on my to-do list for a while. I was waiting until I had ALL the box scores, going back to 1962, and that didn't happen until earlier this year. Unfortunately, I've been unable to keep up with the 2005 box scores thanks to some fool at USA Today.
Rockin' Doc Sep 18 2005 07:35 PM |
I'd guess Willie Stargell, Mike Schmidt, Johnny Bench, and Hank Aaron off the top of my head.
mlbaseballtalk Sep 18 2005 07:40 PM |
Stargell, Schmidt, Bench, Aaron seems too easy, I'll say Tony Perez, Ernie Banks and Willie McCovey are the other HOFers on the list and the non-HOFers... Barry Bonds probably...and... Either Terry Pendleton or Jack Clark Steve
Benjamin Grimm Sep 18 2005 07:41 PM |
1. Willie Stargell 60
mlbaseballtalk Sep 18 2005 07:48 PM |
And no Bonds, McCovey, Perez, ect either... Hmmm, Dave Kingman... Running out of HOFers... Billy Williams, Clemente not a HR guy, eh...Mays then and...Cepeda? Throw Gary Carter into that hopper as well The non HOFers along with Kong...Hmmm... Greg Luzinski...Andre Dawson
Benjamin Grimm Sep 18 2005 07:52 PM |
1. Willie Stargell 60
Edgy DC Sep 18 2005 08:05 PM |
Matthews?
Benjamin Grimm Sep 18 2005 08:08 PM |
Eddie or Gary?
DocTee Sep 18 2005 08:10 PM |
Orlando Cepeda?
DocTee Sep 18 2005 08:18 PM |
Dale Murphy...
mlbaseballtalk Sep 18 2005 08:22 PM |
What era are we talking with the last guy?
Benjamin Grimm Sep 19 2005 06:59 AM |
I first became a baseball fan in 1971, and he was a well-known active player that year.
Edgy DC Sep 19 2005 07:40 AM |
I'm looking for a power hitting Hall-of-Famer who played primarily in the NL and was well-known and active in 1971. That seems to imply he was at the end of his run then and did most of his damage in the sixties, but he could have been on the way up.
Edgy DC Sep 19 2005 07:45 AM |
Joe Morgan?
sharpie Sep 19 2005 07:58 AM |
Richie (aka Dick) Allen?
Benjamin Grimm Sep 19 2005 08:04 AM |
Yep, Dick Allen.
sharpie Sep 19 2005 08:23 AM |
What kind of a ridiculous question is that? Of course, we'd play.
Frayed Knot Sep 19 2005 08:28 AM |
McCovey has the best [u:eb02efcaf6]HR rate[/u:eb02efcaf6] of that group: 1 HR in each 12.98 ABs vs NYM.
Edgy DC Sep 19 2005 09:05 AM |
Damn, I was thinking Allen, but I couldn't count.
Edgy DC Sep 19 2005 09:11 AM |
One of the benefits of keeping Dave Kingman employed was that he crushed the Mets even more as an opponent than as a teammate. He leaves behind McCovey and Burrell by homering every 11.35 at-bats against the Mets, but doesn't make the list because he only had 75 games against them.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 19 2005 09:16 AM |
That's some slugging percentage that Kingman put up against the Mets in 1980.
Edgy DC Sep 19 2005 09:26 AM |
Here's my top eleven:
sharpie Sep 19 2005 09:28 AM |
Davey Lopes
Edgy DC Sep 19 2005 09:46 AM |
We've got 13 on the board, so let me throw up seven more to give us a round twenty.
sharpie Sep 19 2005 09:48 AM |
Lonnie Smith
Edgy DC Sep 19 2005 09:50 AM |
Yup.
Edgy DC Sep 19 2005 09:54 AM |
Well, Ron LeFlore sure was wrong.
sharpie Sep 19 2005 10:01 AM |
I'm also thinking Gene Richards.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 19 2005 10:08 AM |
Lots of correct guesses so far:
sharpie Sep 19 2005 10:14 AM |
Cesar Cedeno (the fastest Cedeno of them all)
Edgy DC Sep 19 2005 10:23 AM |
I got my guesses in, so I'll back off, but I'm pretty egg-faced to have missed number five.
sharpie Sep 19 2005 10:49 AM |
Seems to be just me and Edgy playing this game but I'll throw in Bobby Bonds.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 19 2005 11:08 AM |
No to Bobby Bonds.
Valadius Sep 19 2005 11:10 AM |
Craig Biggio
Benjamin Grimm Sep 19 2005 11:12 AM |

Benjamin Grimm Sep 19 2005 11:25 AM |
He's a near miss, with 31.
Valadius Sep 19 2005 11:29 AM |
Delino DeShields. He has to be up there.
Valadius Sep 19 2005 11:33 AM |
Ooh, ooh, the Davises.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 19 2005 11:35 AM |
Very good. We're still missing the Pirate in the 12th spot that I hinted at.
Edgy DC Sep 19 2005 11:56 AM |
Andy Van Slyke.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 19 2005 11:58 AM |
DING!
Elster88 Sep 19 2005 12:08 PM |
Jose Cruz (sr.)?

Outfielder. Played the vast majority of his 18-year career in the National League. Finished in the AL and stole his last base at the age of 39.

Valadius already guessed him.

I like these games. Do some pitching categories. And make up some rules to slow down guessing a little bit, lol.
Benjamin Grimm Sep 19 2005 01:47 PM |
I'll do a pitching category after we finish the stolen bases.

Benjamin Grimm Sep 19 2005 04:58 PM |
That leaves the Phillie (he played for other teams, too) and the guy who was before my time, at least as a National Leaguer. (Remember, I signed on as a baseball fan in 1971.)
Edgy DC Sep 19 2005 05:03 PM |
A Phil from the sixties who wasn't Carlton and wasn't Bunning.

John Denny? He played a long time, and was a Phil in the 80's.

John Denny is the Phillie.
