When Did This Change

This past weekend, I said about a (non-baseball) player "he got game".
I was immediately told that expression is now passe. It is now "He got skills".
When did that happen?
Has anyone else heard this new term being used?

I think the expression is "he got mad skills."

I got mad skills.

It happened at least a year ago. At my last school, our PR guy tried to use "So you think you've got game?" in a piece advertising our athletic department and they made him change it.

Should we come up with a new one?

Are you implying that this thread is somehow mediocre in every way?

I wish it was mediocre.

Now's as good as any time to launch the Usage forum. William Safire is your moderator.

During the Steve Phillips regime it was tools. Some people had as many as five tools to work with yet they still couldn't produce anything of value.

No - SCILS

(But that's just at Freakin' Rutgers. It stands for School of Communication, Information and Library Studies.)
