I think they should entertain the idea of Churchie as number-two hitter.

Maybe not vs. a lefty like Kershaw.

Recent tweets:

# David Lennon
lenno212Tatis at first, Evans in LF, Sheffield in RF. #Mets just finished a drill that involved calling for shallow pops. I'm not joking.11 minutes ago from TwitterBerry

# Bart Hubbuch
NYPost_MetsNot that it worked out too well the first time he did it, but Jerry Manuel had the #Mets out early for infield practice today.

And two more:

# lenno212Beltran only riding bike. No baseball activity. Will be re-evaluated at AS break. Probably won't be back until late July - at earliest.#mets1 minute ago from TwitterBerry

# David Lennon
lenno212Reyes back in NYC. Got another cortisone shot. Shut down again for a few days. Not good. #mets3 minutes ago from TwitterBerry

why, you think he'd be less successful at getting on base than Alex Cora? I don't.

nor should you be joking, they need to work on this and a bunch of other things.

]Not that it worked out too well the first time he did it, but Jerry Manuel had the #Mets out early for infield practice today.

because you know that everything that doesnt produce immediate results is a bad idea. idiot. the mets should be taking early infield, late infield, and 2AM infield if necessary.

Small sample sizes, but Church has a .255 OBP in 49 PA this year against lefties (.318 career) while Cora has a .408 in 51 PA (.336 career)

Cora, for his career, has actually hit lefties better than righties

its game time, can the mets turn the season around against the best team in the NL? at least we miss Billingsley!

Manny gets in Hirshbeck's face over a called strike 3, but no ejection.
John should have told him that the roids must have hurt his eyesight.

Which was much more exciting than listening to this drecky game....

FUCK YOU CASTILLO

we're down 3 runs with wright and sheffield coming up and you get thrown out trying for 3rd base???

I HATE THIS FUCKING TEAM

I was out exercising too. You can pin that defecit on me. Credit me with the waxing rally also.

Nymr83
Jul 07 2009 06:21 PM

wright flies out, and sheffield never gets to the plate with runners on. its a sad commentary on where this season has gone that getting Sheffield up there with runners on is the goal of an attempted rally. hurry back Carlos!

Well put. Two hits in an inning isn't just a rally, it's a miracle but Castillo screws things up again.

Frayed Knot
Jul 07 2009 06:26 PM

I had no problem with Castillo going to 3rd there.

Screwing up the groundball, on the other hand, is another story.

A lot of guys trying to do too much and end up being counterproductive. This is one place i think leadership could help. And isn't.

Jul 07 2009 06:33 PM

Pelfrey got 9 outs while giving up 12 baserunners ... even though the Dodgers hit maybe 2 balls hard the whole time.

But, we had Wright not get off a good throw on a high bouncer
Castillo make an error on an easy grounder
Pelfrey seemingly pitching around Furball for no apparent reason (which led to the first 3 runs)
Plus an assortment of bleeders and bloopers sandwiched around their few good hits

Frayed Knot
Jul 07 2009 06:52 PM

Note to NYM pitchers: You can't put the fucking lead-off guys on in every god-damn inning and expect to get out of the mother-fucking inning unscathed!!
Yes, Manny's hit was a shattered-bat piece of shit but when you allow the first two guys on, then walk the two guys IN FRONT OF MANNY you can't play the victim card when he dunks a dying fucking bird over the infield.

OK, we stink. Do we really have to have to rub it in by playing "Crazy Train" for less-than-awesome at-bats by less-than-awesome players?

Can we just play "Chances Are" and "Only Make Believe" for all at-bats until further notice?

Twins in the process of losing their 345th game in a row to the Yanx. Most of them blowouts.
1-1/2 hours in and they're in the 4th.

I haven't watched a single inning of this game. And I don't even want to. This team has become so horribly unwatchable that I don't even think I would mind if they got rid of just about everyone.

You know? That's such a seemingly insignificant thing, but I think it's emblematic of what a clusterfuck this season is. I've said it before -- what is taking them so long to remedy that? Is it so fucking hard to stick a camera up in the corner and run a couple of wires? Call a fucking guy and get it done. Your broadcasts look like ass. Not that it matters, because everyone's already turned off the fucking game by the time we start worrying about who's in the bullpen. And not that it matters who's in the bullpen, because they're all interchangeable bags of suck.

Jul 07 2009 09:37 PM

The only bright side to tonight's game is that I wasn't there. Was supposed to be but a family thing while we're up here visiting and had to pass on the game.

Saw some of it and Pelfrey continues to baffle me. Walking in the run and bloop hit made me want to throw something through my sister-in-law's beautiful TV.

Also baffling was Hirshbeck's strike zone. I'm surprised Manny didn't spit at him tonight. Incredibly inconsistent, Some pitches looked like he was squeezing Pelfrey, others horrible calls like a couple on Manny.

Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, "Spanish Fly" or "Tijuana Taxi"-- a la every old WWOR game/talk show-- for everybody!

Went bowling with the fiancee and two nieces. The bar in the alley had the Yankee game on and ESPN opposite. Didn't ask them to change it.

Looks like I made the right call.
