SHaMs @ Braves: 7/17 IGT

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 17 2009 03:17 PM

For the forces of not-so-good:

CF Pagan
2B Castillo
3B Wright
LF Sheffield
RF Francoeur
1B Murphy
SS JCL's Favorite Clubhouse Leader
C Santos
P Beeg Pelf

And for them Chick-Fil-A-scarfin' muhfuhs:

CF McLouth
2B Prado
3B Larry
C McCann
LF Anderson
SS Escobar
RF Church
1B Kotchman
P Jajir Jjurrjejnsj

The season's over, there's nobody to trade or trade for, Carlos Beltran's career is over... blah, blah, blah.

Uck Fatlanta, their dumb timely retirement of their legends' numbers and their stupid soft drink hegemony... let's light the fires with a little pre-game clinical precision:

Needed all that Maddux drama in a Mets' broadcast like I need fleas.

G-Fafif
Jul 17 2009 05:49 PM

I thought for sure Maddux would take himself out of the ceremonies with 20 minutes to go.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 17 2009 05:56 PM

The ex makes a nice running catch on DW near the RF line track.

The crowd seems into the game, in somewhat un-Atlantan fashion.

PiggiesTomatoes
Jul 17 2009 06:00 PM

Maddux's last line at the end of his comments: "Let's go beat the Mets. Like the old days."

Douchy...but I'd expect nothing less.

I pretty much give up

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 17 2009 06:09 PM

I like Pelfrey's approach tonight early-- bust the lefties inside-- but the stuff's not there (especially on the 4-seamer, which in not tailing like it normally does, is staying up).

Also, McCann hammers mistakes up and in.

Jul 17 2009 06:13 PM

Escobar is a real pain in the ERA.

Later

Warthen must go! Just fire him right in the bottom of the first.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 17 2009 06:15 PM

Any time you can get a nice 30-pitch first inning in against a lineup that's only marginally better than the Mets', you've got to jump on that bargain, right?

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 17 2009 06:21 PM

Nice job, Cora.

PiggiesTomatoes
Jul 17 2009 06:21 PM

Already, FUCK!

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 17 2009 06:25 PM

Good manners from Mr. Cora there. Why make a guy throw more than one pitch after working so hard on the previous guy? Come on, that would be rude.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 17 2009 06:35 PM

Hey the guy who gets squirted in the eye by a grapefruit in that McDonald's ad is in my brother's flick.

John Cougar Lunchbucket

Humilating,

Shutout, blowout.

Four or five more doubles and we're right back in this game!

That's a ball Wright should be driving into the stands

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr

Our hanging breakers get hit out of the ballpark.

Their hanging breakers get hit for hard singles and the occasional double.

("Their," by the way, is anyone else.)

Slip Slidinn Away
Slip Sliding away
To that cellar destination
not so far far away.

The nice part is I no longer have expectations for this bunch...and when does football season start?

Pagan's not so well-stocked in the throwing department, is he?

PiggiesTomatoes
Jul 17 2009 07:16 PM

Posada thrown out at the plate. Tiggers lead the MFY's 3-2 going to the top of the 7th.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 17 2009 07:20 PM

Fuck it, why change him here?

Let Pelf take the beating-- if he's not going to do the job in terms of run prevention, let him choke on the innings.

Ya know things are bad when there's Yank updates in the IGT.

Harry Crane's just found out about his wife's pregnancy. Pete seems a bit ambivalent about the idea of fatherhood... as does Harry.

With a possible influx of new blood into Sterling Cooper, nobody's job is safe...

Even though Peggy's a copywriter now, she's still struggling to establish herself in a way that none of the men in the office have to.

Meanwhile, Don Draper's struggling with being "good." You can tell.

Did I mention I'd popped in "Mad Men," Season 2?

Hilarious

Meanwhile I am now watching " what not to wear", thank you Mets

The Mets were two-hit. If the Mets had been no-hit, would have anybody noticed the difference?

I would've had to taken a sabbatical from any glowing information boxes to be able to avoid hearing about a no-no. This is easier to avoid.

Probably not , two hits , no hits....makes no difference , it's still an embrassesment

I watched sporadically and played board games with the wife after the kids went to bed. But not much to see.

I was struck by the eternal optimism of Fboy. When the Braves went up 6-0 after the McCann HR we went into the bathroom, to brush his teeth and get ready for bed. When we came back out he was excited that the Mets had gotten two outs. "They're that much closer to winning now!" is what he told me.

Gotta love that.

metirish
Jul 17 2009 08:53 PM

Don't tell him that the Mets suck , not yet anyway.....

Rockin' Doc
Jul 17 2009 08:57 PM

Fboy will unfortunately figure that out on his own soon enough.

Even Jerry Manuel admitted as much, joking afterward, "They're calling it cramps; surgery on Thursday." Laughter followed, but Manuel immediately realized he had pushed too far, adding: "I couldn't resist. Sorry, doctors."

The 2003 Mets were never as good as this team was in April.

The 2003 Mets were never as bad as this team is now. Even during that August crash. Was that 2003?

I find it hard to think of any team as bad as they are right now. Maybe the 1993 team at some point with Bogar and Orsualk and Gallagher getting lots of starts. But even they had Keff Jent and Murray and Bonilla comign up every time through the order.

August-September 2004. They lost 17 of 18 games. How did I survive that?

Yes, but it was a different Reyes. Sub-.700 OPSing, among the worst regulars in the majors...

... so, yeah, like a fast Alex Cora, IOW.
