Game two of a doubleheader.

So I watch that Wings performance and there's absolutely no shots of lead guitarist Jimmy McCullough. He only accidentally ends up in the background of a shot of Denny Laine. What's up with that?

Denny had ownership of some Wings songs..McCullough was treated like the Stones bassist after Wyman..invisible

If anyone has seen the movie Tropic Thunder, one of Ben Stiller's characters is a smiling tard named "Simple Jim"

I swear Francouer looks just like him

I just cut and pasted that from the Atlanta Journal Constitution or whatever
it's called. Braves are throwing the Mets a bone and only fielding eight. I just
went and checked and they got nine Mets listed and still only eight Braves!

Edgy DC
Jul 18 2009 02:14 PM

Kotchman is the mystery firstbaseman.

Pagan reaches and Castillo bunts him over.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 02:14 PM

A hit! A countable hit!

Edgy DC
Jul 18 2009 02:17 PM

Francoeur, here's your chance to become a man.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 02:17 PM

Wright and the boys decided to go all Alzado with the old-fashioned eyeblack.

SugarPants gets the semi-intentional pass. Francoeur-- still getting applause from the Atlanta "fandom"-- up with 2 on, 2 out.

Edgy DC
Jul 18 2009 02:20 PM

Nope. Frenchy is 0-8 on the series.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 02:21 PM

Good news: Jeff Francoeur's apparently striking out a lot less!

Bad news: It's not because he's more selective, but because he's taking half-swings two-thirds of the time!

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 02:29 PM

Seriously, now: When the f*ck did Martin Prado become Ron Gant?

Kong76
Jul 18 2009 02:38 PM

The 'B' booth on Saturday Fox baseball is much more pleasing to the ear for me.

Kong76
Jul 18 2009 02:40 PM

And the 'B' booth tells us that Johan has reached the 1,700 K mark!

Oh, Karros has his moments as well... like now, when he's talking about how, in being a defector, Yunel Escobar had to adjust from the "more emotional" Cuban style of baseball to the American game, where "you just can't do that sort of thing."

Kong76
Jul 18 2009 02:46 PM

It's an official FOX game, they're talking about the Yanks.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 02:48 PM

Oh, Pagan just bunted real pretty.

Wasted when Castillo and Murphy ground out to the right side.

But, hey-- two hits already!

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 02:56 PM

Mild surprise: Leading off the third, Kenshin Kawakami does NOT walk or otherwise get on base.

Kong76
Jul 18 2009 03:16 PM

CORA gets a hit!

Santana sac bunts him over. I was looking for him to hit a double in the
gap but I'm delusional at this point.

Edgy DC

Murder seeing Santana pitch knowing any mistake is such a fate-sealer.

Some "good, clean" dirty ankle-breaking shit from Matt Diaz right there, as the replay shows Diaz reaching back to trip Wright up as he slides past third.

(SIDE NOTE: My absolute least favorite idiot-color-man thing is when someone tries to sell me their version on things as the slow-motion replay contradicting them rolls onscreen. Thanks, Eric Karros, for making my headache a bit worse.)

Kong76

EDC: Murder seeing Santana pitch knowing any mistake is such a fate-sealer <<<

How long before he wants to leave? He really is the consummate gentleman,
but his time here has to start to get to him eventually.

Gwreck
Jul 18 2009 03:37 PM

There was nothing clean about that play. He had to reach across his body, after he already had touched the base, to trip up David.

Diaz gets plunked next inning. Time for the Mets to stop being a bunch of sissies.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 03:40 PM

Greg Maddux is living well, isn't he? Plenty of porterhouse in that gold mock turtleneck, methinks.

Fran Coor with a Baltimore Chop to load the bases!

Jul 18 2009 03:46 PM

Now now

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 18 2009 03:47 PM

I want Diaz shitting his pants in the on-deck circle.

Hey two runs

Kong76
Jul 18 2009 03:47 PM

2 - sniffle Mets. CORA is up, with runners on the corners.

Kong76
Jul 18 2009 03:48 PM

CORA sucks.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 03:48 PM

It's like a single, or a double... it's the RBI-walk-FC combo!

2-0, Team Anemia!

Frayed Knot
Jul 18 2009 03:54 PM

I guess a bags-loaded walk and force-play qualifies as a rally these days.

Kong76
Jul 18 2009 03:55 PM

I'm just happy that the slap-chop guy makes someone laugh besides me.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 03:56 PM

Yeah, let's get Berroa in there. If he's worse, he'd have to be so bad it would be entertaining.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 04:11 PM

Stretch time. In honor of the SHaM-splosion... (Oh, those kids and their autotuners!)

Now put one in Diaz's ear, YoYo.

Gwreck
Jul 18 2009 04:14 PM

Pansy ass.

Edgy DC
Jul 18 2009 04:17 PM

Are we gonna get another Brooks Conrad appearance?

Nope. Anderson.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 04:19 PM

Ugh. Bleeder.

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 18 2009 04:22 PM

Sit down, McLouse.

Edgy DC
Jul 18 2009 04:22 PM

The gonaddage of him going to the change is excellent.

Johan says:

Edgy DC

that's 115 pitches for Saint Anna. I've got to think they pull him here.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 18 2009 04:24 PM

I hope Johan like beer.

Edgy DC
Jul 18 2009 04:29 PM

Hey, we're allowed to steal!

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 04:30 PM

Le whiff.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 04:35 PM

Leadoff single and steal for the ostensible heart of the order, as Fox's broadcast team waxes endlessly about Vegemite/its grossness... and, three batters later, no runs across.

Kong76
Jul 18 2009 04:40 PM

Chipper!

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 04:46 PM

Blown hit and runs make Bobby Cox a sad panda.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 18 2009 04:58 PM

Kotchman single puts runners on the corners for the ex.

[Murphy, drifting toward the outfield again (after the weird cutoff play last night), dives after a throw from Francoeur, and almost gets Kotchman taking a big turn around first.]

Edgy DC
Jul 18 2009 04:59 PM

I go with Rodriguez here.

Kong76
Jul 18 2009 04:59 PM

This bottom of the 8th is like the longest freakin' inning in the history of ....
it's long.

smg58
Jul 18 2009 05:00 PM

Why can't Frankie go four outs? His next save op might not be till next year.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 18 2009 05:01 PM

It likely wouldn't be if Edgy was manager. I too keep wondering why Rodriguez isn't in for the 4 out save. This is likely the ball game right here.

"This How-Many-Relief-Pitchers-Can-We-Squeeze-Into-This-Phone-Booth inning is brought to you by Metro PCS."

Kong76
Jul 18 2009 05:03 PM

Stokes tell us to shush.

Rockin' Doc
Jul 18 2009 05:04 PM

Stokes was stoked and Norton got smoked.

Frayed Knot
Jul 18 2009 05:06 PM

Problem is pitcher's spot is due up this inning and I think we're out of healthy bodies to double-switch.

Frayed Knot
Jul 18 2009 05:08 PM

If we're gonna sac bunt we could just leave the pitcher in to do that.

Kong76
Jul 18 2009 05:11 PM

Pagan with an insurance run producing triple!

Never. The Mets have never pulled off a suicide squeeze.

All joking aside... that the team's 2nd or 3rd in the majors in sac bunts, and hasn't squeezed yet this year is strange, and rather fucked.

EDIT: The team is 2nd in the majors in sacrifice hits, after Cincinnati.

Frayed Knot
Jul 18 2009 05:16 PM

Be real nice if Dabidrye puts the game away here.

Frayed Knot
Jul 18 2009 05:18 PM

Or Francoeur, either way.

Kong76
Jul 18 2009 05:21 PM

Fran Coor!

Edgy DC

A pretty well-played game. Very little suckering until Feliciano came in.

Even Cora made up for his error with some other nifty plays.
