Hey I know how inhumane it all is, but let's trade for Jack Wilson and Ian Snell.

I like Wilson: Plays good SS, and can be re-gifted when Reyes returns. Till then it's an acknowledgment that the Mets owe themselves and us better play than they can get with an injured old guy at SS and sends a message to Reyes that if your legs really suck, we'll have to find a reliable guy instead.

Snell is crazy, says he considered suicide recently, needs a change of scenery. Also could push Pelf and Maine to be better. This team needs more threats to the incumbents.

How do we afford this? I don't know.

The Mets would be robbed blind in any trade they make.

Say goodbye to Fartinez, Parnell, Holt and anybody else that is held in high regard (if any body else still is held in high regard).

Methinks the injuries and the performance have rendered the roster much less Neiman Marcus than it used to be-- it's more of a flea market you happen by while you're on the way down the shore/out to the Hamptons, and if you have time you stop and see what you can pry from the pile.

Also, as the market tent just caught fire, the sellers are quite motivated.

I hate this middle-of-the-road bullshit, because you know Omar's going to do something stupid like trading every chip we have to pick up some suckass middle reliever. Soup's right.

Let it go, Omar. It ain't happening this year, and we're okay with that. Trade the pieces who might have value to good teams (Cora, Schneider, Delgado if and when he comes back, Church, Reed, Feliciano, even Wagner if he looks healthy) for system depth and let it go.

In the past, every year around this time I would scan the rosters of other teams, look at the players in the Mets organization, do some mental gymnastics, and come up with some trades that I thought might be feasible. Even some WATPs.
This year, I got nothin'.
No one (or two) trades can really help this club. And if there were, there is nothing really attractive to give up.
Gotta' tough it out with what they have.

Take it for what it's worth but Heyman today has a "Mets person" saying that they can't match up with Billy Beane on a trade for Matt Holliday , Heyman also scouts potential trading partners for Roy Halladay and has the Phillies on top of that list....again it means nothing but I'd hate to see the guy end up there.

Heard Buster Olney on the radio earlier saying the same thing about Halladay, that the Phils are the best match-up on the surface. Whoever wants him reportedly has to be willing to part with "three top prospects" and be able to pick up the contract. Those two conditions alone eliminate a number of clubs but probably not the Phils who are actively looking for starting pitching (they're looking at Pedro just this week).

On the other hand, the "Halladay is on the block" quotes that came through late yesterday are a little more breathlessly definitive than what Toronto GM JP Riccardi is actually quoted as saying;
"I don't think anything has changed, I just think: 'You know what, why not listen? The worst we can say is no' ... If someone wants Roy and they're willing to blow us away we'd be willing to listen, that's all I'm saying. That doesn't mean we'd trade him, that doesn't mean we're looking to trade him. All it means is we'd be willing to listen."

Mmmm... pie. Yes, I'm becoming a "do something" creature.

I suppose we could wait for the inevitable waivers

]Orioles looking into trading Salazar, Pie Two players have drawn interest from other teams By Jeff Zrebiec | jeff.zrebiec@baltsun.com July 8, 2009 SEATTLE — Needing a roster spot with shortstop Cesar Izturis expected to be activated from the disabled list Friday, the Orioles are exploring trades for infielder Oscar Salazar and outfielder Felix Pie, who have garnered interest from other teams. Salazar and Pie are out of options and would be likely lost through waivers, so it makes sense for the Orioles to get something in return rather than lose them for nothing. "I think the market would indicate that they have greater value than just a waiver claim," Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail said. "I think it's one of those things that there's good news and bad news. The bad news is you have to make a roster decision and you have a limited amount of flexibility. The good news is that your extra players are getting to the point where they're attractive to a lot of teams. "That is a sign of progress, that as opposed to guys that are just kind of, in baseball parlance, 'Four-A' guys, these are guys that other clubs have some interest in. So we'll see what evolves." Pie, the 24-year-old outfielder who has started just three of the Orioles' past 21 games, is eight for his past 20 with four RBIs while getting limited at-bats with the emergence of rookie Nolan Reimold in left field. According to sources, the Orioles discussed Pie with the Chicago White Sox in a potential deal revolving around third baseman Josh Fields, but it's not known how much interest, if any, the White Sox still have in the outfielder. Salazar, a key member of the Orioles' bench and a catalyst for a couple of their recent comeback victories, entered Tuesday's game 10-for-26 (.385) with a homer and five RBIs since his promotion from Triple-A Norfolk. Salazar, 31, has value to a number of teams, specifically those in the National League, because of the right-handed power he brings off the bench and his ability to play multiple positions. Asked whether the roster decision will come down to either Pie or Salazar barring a trade, Orioles manager Dave Trembley said, "I would say those are some good names, good choices." Trembley said losing either of them would be a loss for the club. "It would be playing short," he said. "It's been good having the insurance of Pie. I think the last month, the at-bats that he's had, he's hit much better against right-handed pitching. Salazar has been a very productive guy off the bench. He was extremely valuable, especially against National League clubs during interleague. It would be hard to lose either guy." As for Izturis, he went 2-for-3 on Tuesday with two runs scored and a stolen base for Double-A Bowie in his first game action since undergoing an appendectomy on June 5. He'll play again today, and if all goes well, he's expected to be back in the Orioles' lineup Friday.

Pie reminds me a bit of Wily Mo Pena; an uber-tooled OFer who was rated on everyone's prospects lists as a teenager based purely on potential alone but as time went on never really seemed to get the hang of ... well, hitting.

As for the original WATP: Wilson's a great fielder (though a bit of a hot-head) who would provide a bit more pop than Cora but probably make more outs in the process. I'm not sure I'd be spending any precious chips (or even semi-precious ones) on just a partial upgrade for a short time problem. He's also making a decent amount of smack.
Snell, OTOH, is intriguing.

I think we should aquire Pie and Cory Patterson and dig up Bobby Hill wherever he is and put together a team of disapponting former Cubs prospects.

Salazar has played 5 positions this year (1B, SS, 3B, LF, RF) and has the feel of a Met fan favorite in a lost season (like, say, 2003... or the second half of this year).

Also, he'd be our fourth member of Team Chavez (behind Frankie, Ferny Nieve and absentee Johan), and would probably appreciate trading arepa-and-pabellon-criollo recommendations with the boys.
