I want to post my first holy communion pictures here.

Anyhow, all youse flabbergasted with the manner of Church's leaving, keep in mind how disappionted the forum all was by the manner of his coming.

Omar was an idiot then, too. But I"m guessing Church and Snyder, crappy health included, have produced more WARPies than Milledge

i remember how he was our best player last year until he got whacked in the head by a stinkin' brave.

then i remember how he seemed to get hisself in hte managers doghouse for some unknowable reason. i still don't get how he hadn't played more this year. but then, i'm starting to realize that there's a lot unknowable about jerry's ways.

He's got that going for him-- this probably won't happen as much.

His Ronald Reagan-esgue cross country flight is one thing I will remember him for.

One sweet day, early last September at Milwaukee. I reproduce the thought process here:

]Top of the first. After Reyes pops out, Murphy's on first, Wright's up. Howie says Wright has lashed one down the right field line. ALL RIGHT! GO MURPH! SCORE! Murph winds up on third, Wright's on first. WHY DIDN'T MURPHY SCORE? WHY IS WRIGHT ONLY ON FIRST? HOWIE MADE IT SOUND LIKE A DOUBLE! Delgado up. TOTAL DOUBLE PLAY COMING UP. I CAN'T BELIEVE WE HAD FIRST AND THIRD, ONE OUT AND WE WON'T SCORE. Delgado singles, scoring Murphy, Wright going to third. Beltran up. BELTRAN'S BEEN ON FIRE...WHICH MEANS I'M EXPECTING TOO MUCH FROM HIM HERE. HE'LL STRIKE OUT. AND I'LL BET DELGADO LOAFED TO FIRST. Beltran walks to load the bases for Church. CAN WE STOP WITH THE CHURCH REHAB PROGRAM? HE'S SUCKED SINCE HE CAME BACK. WHERE'S TATIS? GEEZ JERRY! Church launches a grand slam. YEAH! YEAH! ALL RIGHT RYAN! YEAH! NOW OF COURSE HE'S GOING TO GO BACK TO SLUMPING BECAUSE A HOME RUN DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING FOR THE LONG TERM, IT'S JUST A LUCKY SWING.

Good luck Ryan. Keep your head on straight, so to speak.

Very strange Met.

He could be having a good year right now and not be traded, is what I'm thinking.

Right field is the new third base.

97 Huskey
98 Huskey
99 Cedeno
00 Bell
01 Perez
02 Burnitz
03 Cedeno
04 Hidalgo
05 Diaz
06 Nady
07 Green
08 Church
09 Francoeur (?)

If Francoeur doesn't play every day, Church has a decent shot at being the first player to lead the team in innings played in RF for two consecutive years since Butch Huskey.

He made some gorgeous catches on balls that looked uncatchable.

And Alex Ochoa led them in appearances there in 1997.

Really, the instablity goes all the way back to Darryl Strawberry signing with LA. And the "leaders" are very often guys who didn't complete the season (Hubie Brooks), guys who filled in for somebody who didn't complete the season (Joe Orsulak) or guys who settled there for a piece as they were moved around the diamond trying to find a slot for their bat (Bonilla, Huskey). Ghosts.

Thing is, there's an argument for filling corner outfield slots last, as there is a larger amount of people who can play there than, say, shortstop or catcher, but somebody --- of two or three somebodies --- should have established themselves there over the years.

The first word that will always come to mind is "concussion."

And then I'll think about how the Mets made him fly from city to city while his head was spinning.

Right field's hazy past (and Church's imminent demise) explored here[/url:1hx1n9ay] in February.

I'm thinking of that conclusion you wrote --- about how third and right are tied up. Maybe the Mets finally break the cold spell there by shifting David Wright out there and placing Shawn Bowman (or somesuch) at third.

And then another two-decade void begins at the hot corner.
