Now is the time to advertise.
Livan (provided there's a bounceback in the next two weeks), Schneider (hitting surprisingly well since the injury return-- a nice fit for, say, the Brewers or Rays), and Feliciano (a tidy piece of Kryptonite for any potential Phils or Yankee opponents to acquire) seem most marketable.
Sheffield would be an ideal candidate for anyone needing an offensive boost (Sox? Giants?), but the same stuff that brought him here (sentiment) is going to make him a gargantuan headache to move.

I don't see Francouer , Pagan or Maine going anywhere.
What would you get for Francouer and Pagan that would make you move them?, I'm just thinking out loud here . Both are young with some upside , neither I would think will bring back a high prospect and whats the point in trading them for a like player.
Maine is injured so that rules him out.

i dont think sheff is worth much to anyone even though hes hit fir the mets, if he goes anywhere i'd have to think its an AL team that needs a DH. looking at the AL contenders: -the Angels just lost Hunter AND Guerrero to the DL -The D-Rays could easily give up on Pat "no more bat" Burrell, -the Twinkies could put Kubel in the outfield and bench Gomez who sucks but they'd have to be willing to play Span or Cuddyer in CF (Delmon Young has sucked too but you'd have to assume a now healthy Span os replacing him) -the White Soc have both Podsednik and Anderson sucking it up, since either one can play CF that would make room for Sheff in a corner spot, but no DH as Thome plays there (with a resurgent Konerko at 1st), is Quentin healthy yet? -the team that could maybe use him the most is probably the one place he'd never end up, because they have Magglio Ordonez putting up an atrocious 74 ops+ but they already released Shef this year -the Mariners are getting no production in LF and very little from Griffey at DH (but the fans are so happy to see him back that he wont get benched), they could probably play Sheff and Griff at LF/DH keeping them bth rested -The Yankees, Red Sox, and Rangers would imo only use him as a bench guy, and thats all the AL teams over .500
so there might be destinations for him if the Mets want to deal him for a project (you wont get a good prospect), probably someone along the lines of Royce Ring when they got him, a fireballer who hasnt gotten it together

My point was, I don't think Sheff's going anywhere. (I'm not a huge Davidoff fan in terms of analysis, but when it's coming straight from the man himself... think "de facto no-trade clause.")
]"There's a lot that has to happen for me to leave here," Sheffield told Midweek Insider yesterday. "Because, at the end of the day, I'm not going to go where I don't want to go. Everything has to be right for me at this point, for me to do it." |

Shef is the most dealable commodity. The Giants need right-handed power desperately. They might even be interested in Tatis. Somebody like Sergio Romo would help us a lot next year without necessarily killing our chances for this year.
I'm not sure who's shopping for a catcher, but dealing Schneider wouldn't necessarily hurt us the next two months either.
Given Castillo's age and contract I'd be surprised if we get offers, but given his age and contract I'd listen if somebody asks.
Feliciano still has a year before free agency I think, so I see no good reason to consider shopping him.

if you want a Schneider suitor in contention i'd think your best bet is Tampa Bay where Dioner Navarro makes Schneid look positively Ruthian.

I'm just thinking out loud also, which may be a dangerous thing. I guess as a Mets fan I've never seen them in such a high market position and wonder if that means you never ever give up..you buy and hope.
It might be nice to stock the farm with some prospects and maybe a couple will make it worth the while..Gives Fmart some extended time. Probably helps the club get a better feel about Muffy etc.
Of course a 10 game winning streak makes this a moot point

Everyone who they could trade to "stock the farm" is hurt. They can't get anything farm stocking worthy for the guys that most of us would be willing to unload.
To me, it will be a lost season unless things luckily change the next week or so. They can't really do all that much to significantly improve the team (or the organization)

i'm not asking for good prospects, i'm just pointing out some teams that could use guys that we probably wont bring back next year anyway. all i'd want in return is a "project" guy. i dont have time now but i'm sure you could go back and find the equivalent of this year's Sheffield/Schneider getting dealt for something usable.

What about Livan? I know he's had some sucky outings of late, but isn't he the kind of guy that GMs of teams in contention just love to have: the so-called veteran, innings-eating, crafty guy to trot out there every fifth day. Now, who the contender is who would want him I have no idea (Brewers? Rangers? White Sox?).

i think his ERA shot up too much, he might have been usable bait a month ago, but i think all the GMs had to have the same idea that most of us did that it would all come crashing down eventually.

Trading Schneider is an interesting situation. For this year, you would like to get a catcher in return. But that catcher (unless on an expiring contract like Schneider) might stand in the way of catching prospect Josh Thole by next year. 'Tis a puzzlement.
When do you sell? When you have a buyer who will give fair return.

Lol, I was disagreeing with your post above mine.
We don't 'get' each other, which is fine.

I don't think we care so much about getting a catcher in return, do we?
Hell, if you're not trading for this year, might as well roll with Santos and Cancel.

Anyone and everyone, save Santana, Wright, and Reyes. Line 'em up and move 'em out.

Beltran's wondering if you've somehow misplaced his reservation (and points out that, if you're trading him due to injury-related hobbling, you're selling at a steep discount). .
