Niese Now!

The Mets season isn't looking good. Livan Hernandez has struggled lately and is certainly not part of next year's plan. Jonathan Niese might be part of next year's plan. We need to find out, and I say the time is NOW while he is red hot in the minors, don't wait for him to potentially slump, give him the best shot at success by letting him take Livan's starts against the lowly Nationals and Astros next week while he himself is on fire!

his last few starts:
7/11: 6ip, 8h, 1r, 1bb, 5k
7/5: 9, 5, 0, 2, 10
6/30: 8, 5, 2, 1, 4
6/25: 6, 6, 1, 2, 6
6/20: 7, 6, 0, 1, 8
6/12: 7.1, 2, 0, 3, 7

thats six starts with 43 1/3 innings, 32 hits, 4 runs, 10 walks, and 40 strikeouts.

NOW is the time!
gotta find something to try and get excited about here

Agreed. About the only good that can come out of the remainder of the season is a little eval of the few major-league-ready folk we have.

The Buffalo game got rained out. So did Binghamton.

We're getting over-excited. He'll be here soon enough.

A half a season isn't necessary for evaluation.

Bingy didn't get rained out - just delayed. They're down 0-3 in the first.

i don't know exactly how much time is needed but more is better and livan servees no purpose on a team going nowhere

Niese with a complete game (7 innings) shut out tonight. Figueroa, too. Niese should have the start on Monday.

If it's reasonably decided that he's the better bet for the team the rest of the season, than bring him to New York. Else, I don't know why it's so important to explicitly throw in the towel sooner, rather than later.

In light of Niese's recent performances and those of Livan it wouldn't be throwing in the towel, it would be the better move for both now and the future, though I'm looking more at the future here.

If you think that the Mets have no chance of making the playoffs, then you call Niese up to see if he can pitch on the Major League level over a long period of time, rather than one or two starts. If you think that the Mets have a chance, then you call Niese up because he's pitching great and Livan is not. Either way, Niese now.

Before his last two starts, Livan had some trade value. A good outing or two before the deadline might restore some of that value, and even a borderline prospect would probably be worth waiting till the end of the month to see Niese.

Of course, if Livan blows up again in his next start, it's a moot point.

Oh it would be borderline alright.....

Well, that's what I said in my first sentence. The throwing in the towel phrase was deliberately prefixed with an "Else." If good judgement says he's the better Met down the stretch, sure, call on him.

Niese and Nieve are only one letter away.

Apparently, Manuel isn't all that enthusiastic about bringing Niese up.

I don't see what you mean by that...I think Manuel might be trying to temper expectations .As Rubin noted Jerry has all but named Niese the starter for Saturday.

Those quotes came before the game. He had to change course after the Nieve injury.
