Fascinated me as a kid , who wasn't I suppose . I'm pretty sure back then if someone asked me what the USA would be doing on the moon by the time I was 36 I'm certain it would be something other than nothing.

Only twelve* men have ever walked on the moon.
Of those dozen, nine are still living.
The youngest survivor turns 74 later this year.
The oldest start hitting 80 next year.
It's conceivable that within the next decade there will be no one alive who ever set foot there.
I don't think anyone would have bet on that after 6 landings occurred in a 3-1/2 year span ending in December 1972.

I'm thinking that after commercial enterprises hit Luna and start trying to exploit her --- I'm thinking casinos --- the US will take renewed interest.
