Not pumped after that trip to Houston? Have some Rocky I:

Rockies in for four. The door is still ajar.

Okay, I know I was gone for a while, but:

What the hell does "SHaMs" mean?

Second Half Mets.

The Mets hitting in Houston has given me hope (wood). I think they're the dark horse candidate now for the Wild Card.

Yeah, that's right. I went there.

I'mnot going anywhere but staying right here. But I gotsa say, beating Houston is a cool thing, as these were two teams proverbally going in opposite directions.

I'm with Edgy. I don't feel transported, just grateful to have shaken my feeling of feeling stupid for watching this team, if just for the moment. I'll be at tomorrow night's tilt with BetterHalfer, with clear eyes and full heart.

And until we see a healthy Reyes, at least, I'm still on the driving-mournfully-without-actually-looking-at-the-road segment of the "Rocky" inspiration continuum:

It's a montage! (Montage!)

Now that's a montage fromage.

I like how Rocky "remembers" sights he wasn't there to see like his wife watching his fight from R2 on TV.

And when did we start posting IGTs the day before?

When you're hot you're hot.

METS:
Angel Pagan CF
Luis Castillo 2B
David Wright 3B
Daniel Murphy 1B
Jeff Francoeur RF
Cory Sullivan LF
Omir Santos C
Alex Cora SS
Oliver Perez LHP (2-3, 7.97)

Nymr83
Jul 27 2009 05:45 PM

Barmes took away a run with a nice diving stop of a grounder.

Tulowitzki just smacked one on a high pitch, 2-0 Rockies

Nymr83
Jul 27 2009 05:56 PM

a nice flip by tulo to barmes to get the force on sullivan

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 27 2009 06:31 PM

Nice escape job by Ollie. But can we generate some O against this Ubaldo guy? I sorta forgot he was good.

Nymr83
Jul 27 2009 06:37 PM

Francoeur has some "O" for you, but thanks to the doubleplay ball preceding it its still 2-1 Rockies

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Jul 27 2009 06:37 PM

Frenchie hammered that one over the fence.

Too bad it followed the Muffy DP. 2-1 after 4.

Nymr83
Jul 27 2009 06:48 PM

Barmes hits a solo-shot to get the run back. Not looking good for the Mets here.

Ollie had the skinny beard working tonight. My first thought was, "the only thing thinner than Ollie's beard is his margin for error."

Frenchy getting the IBB so it's going to be Cory. Or Tatis, if they try to go lefty-lefty on him.

Can Tatis GIDP with guys on 2nd and 3rd? I think yes!

I admit it, I thought Tatis was cooked after getting to 0-2.
Thought he was going to see a big ol' curve in the dirt and whiff at it.

he wouldn't whiff, he'd put it on the ground for an inning-ender.

Let's keep getting this season turned right round...

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Jul 27 2009 09:40 PM

Just got back from game... holy fucksticks, whuzzat fun!

I was the loudmouth over by the bridge just when Tatis got called up to pinch-hit; owing to one too many Beer Island Parfaits I chewed the ears of LWBetterHalfer and our game companions off about how a double play-- sadly-- was coming up right here. I was that guy, for a good three minutes, while the reliever warmed up.

I haven't been so happy to be wrong since I got outvoted on seeing 'Batman and Robin.'

Whatever y'all is doing in the IGTs-- JCL intros, CSB cameos, "Right Round" from Valadius-- keeps it ups.

Edgy, IIRC you've posted several times that you think Castillo should be batting leadoff. After tonight's game, one of the radio guys (don't recall which one) noted that Luis is hitting over .400 in July. Just thought you'd like that amunition for your position.

Later

Nymr83
Jul 27 2009 10:13 PM

i agree he should leadoff, but i dont know that it makes much difference because Castillo followed by Pagan/Cora is probably the same as the opposite, it really only matters when you're moving someone more than a couple of spots (like when some dopey manager lets a speedy out-machine leadoff while a decent but slow OBP-guy hits 7th or 8th)

Nymr - "who was the asshole that spent half the year on the DL away from the club only to return to be a playoff cherleader in 2000?"

If memory serves me correctly, I believe that was Rey 0rdonez. He hurt his arm while trying to make a play at the second base bag against the Dodgers. Following his injury, he virtually dropped out of sight until the end of the season.

I dont' think so. There's a dynamic that's missing.

A walk by Castillo followed by a double by Pagan is typically a run. A double by Pagan followed by a walk by Castillo is not. You generally want the guy who is better at reaching base ahead of the guy who is better at pushing people around the bases. I do, anyhow.
