We're gonna crucify 'em, real bad.

Classic! So, wait. Are we going to beat the Rockies or just butthump them? Note that I am fine with either choice.

That's some serious sack movement there from Carl Weathers. I saw Survivor years ago at Hunter mountain, it's like the whole crowd was waiting for eye of the tiger. I was pumped after hearing it,

I asked the other day why the Mets aren't shaving. The Post today said that Cora organized a no-shave policy until the team reaches .500.

What a concept. I'm truly surprised no one ever thought of this until Cora did.

Tough lineup they're facing tonight:
(By the way, I'm pretty sure 100% of this lineup is on the juice.)

I would have pegged Creed as a first baseman , good feet for the dancing around the bag.
|
Edgy DC Jul 29 2009 07:43 AM |
Believe me, with a lineup full of sculpted lunks, the fight over the firstbaseman's mitt was vicious and oily. In the end, it was agreed that Drago had the best reach.

Take her to the Bronx; I hear r*t*rds like the Bronx. Also, Spider Rico demands a trade to a team that will let him start.

Rocky learned how to play righthanded as a pre-game strategy to screw with Jerry's head.

Pretty sure he swung 80 times one handed until he mastered it, several times a day of course.

I'm trying to imagine all the advertisements Paulie would manage to squeeze onto his catcher's mask.

Yeah, the Spider Rico-Rocky fight was one of the highlights of the first movie. Also, Thunderlips is wasting on the bench.

What a bunch. The Karate Kid pantheon suddenly pales..

John Cougar Lunchbucket Jul 29 2009 11:41 AM |
I just read that Spider Rico makes a return in the "new" Rocky movie, as a slightly retarded guy. Anyone seen it?
|
metirish Jul 29 2009 11:44 AM |

The new one, like Rocky 7? I know Stallone played retarded guy in Rocky 6

Rocky Balboa -- Rocky 6, is what I meant. I haven't seen it yet.
|
Valadius Jul 29 2009 12:31 PM |
Yes, I saw it. Rocky Balboa was surprisingly good. I really enjoyed it - it redeemed the series for me after the horrific failure of Rocky V.
|
Valadius Jul 29 2009 12:52 PM |
There's actually a very good scene in Rocky Balboa where Rocky is talking to his son about life and how winning is done, which is very appropriate in this context:
|

I kept waiting for his son to fly off in that scene...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Aside from the Schneider/Santos platoon it's the same lineup all week. It'll look better still with Sheff in there instead of Cory Haim-Feldman-Sullivan.

Stallone played a retarded guy in Rocky 1 through 6
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jul 29 2009 02:43 PM |
||
In "Rocky 6" he played a guy who was retarded AND apparently melting. So, you know, added degree of difficulty, there-- like trying to dig yourselves out of a 10-game hole when your team has 11 on the DL... AND Jerry Manuel at the helm.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Jul 29 2009 03:09 PM |
In Rocky 5 he actually did have brain damage, as I recall. It started with him feeling the aftereffects of Ivan Drago beating on his skull.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jul 29 2009 03:21 PM |
|
So, wait, he wasn't brain-damaged when he refused to throw in the towel because of a promise he made to his friend in the heat of the moment-- a friend who was likely hemorrhaging cerebrally at that point-- during an exhibition match Apollo shouldn't have accepted in the first place? You know, in retrospect, he really kinda deserved the self-loathing.

Farmer Ted Jul 29 2009 03:59 PM |
Call me a pussy if you want, but I actually got a bit teary eyed watching the end of the fight sequence in Rocky Balboa. The end of an era. Watched that first Rocky film in 3rd freaking grade. Still remember acting out the parts with my friends on the playground.

here's where it's really important that they don't get indisciplined and start hacking at everything - if they can work through 4/5 relievers here the rockies are under a whale load of pressure for the second game.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Jul 30 2009 11:02 AM |
I think they're leaving Fogg out there to eat it for a while (4-5 innings), regardless of result.

Nice to be able to dust him off-- he's kinda had a perpetual case of the Mondays for a good 6 weeks. On another note... 104 pitches, six run lead. You've got to think Misch or Redding is coming in, right?
|
Ceetar Jul 30 2009 12:00 PM |
I would expect Misch or someone. back end. Another run would only support that.
