I wish they'd play this on the big screen, like that clip from Network about opening the window, sticking your head out, and yelling....

Compared to that, the Mets' lineup is going to look half-asped.

Without even turning on the TV, I'm going to assume rain. Monsoons here out east.

Valadius
Jul 31 2009 06:06 PM

We had rain earlier in DC, but it wasn't too bad.

Valadius
Jul 31 2009 06:08 PM

And game on. Drew grounds out.

Valadius
Jul 31 2009 06:10 PM

Livan gets through a lightning-quick first inning - 10 pitches, 9 of them strikes.

Valadius
Jul 31 2009 06:25 PM

Reynolds homers, 1-0 'Zona Asps.

Valadius
Jul 31 2009 06:27 PM

Chris Young's strikeout to end the inning takes him below the Mendoza Line.

Top o' the foul pole t'ya! Murph ties it with a shot down the RF line off the Trachselian lefty Davis.

Valadius
Jul 31 2009 06:41 PM

It's about time he hit a freaking homer.

About time? Tough crowd.

If your fastball is so meaty, keep it off the plate.

Reyes...that's not good..Would you shut him down for a long rehab in a couple of weeks if Mets are still out of it or prolong this?

The booth said Reyes had another setback trying to run..Tightness in hammy..Burkhardt commented on what began as an out one day injury is now a "you have to wonder" situation..

I really would like it if Wright manages to get at least 20 homers by the end of the year.

It's been a horrible night here , especially at the start of the game

Very strange to not see the Snakes guarding the lines in the ninth. I want to exploit that choice.

Fman99
Jul 31 2009 08:53 PM

WOW. Big muff by Reynolds.

SNY had actually put the 2nd out on the screen before he borked it.

Fman99
Jul 31 2009 08:54 PM

Not that it matters.

Edgy DC
Jul 31 2009 08:55 PM

Maybe it'll take a drop to cancel the curse of the drop.

John Cougar Lunchbucket

Same old SHaMs.

Nice night once the rain stopped.

We need someone more threatening than Angel Berroa to send up there in that situation. If it means running the same two bullpen guys out for yet another night, why bother, they're going to screw up one of these nights.

Cora despite reaching twice doesn't look capable even of hitting the ball hard anymore.

Gwreck

Hernandez actually has a higher batting average than Berroa.

If you've really got to go to the PH there, at least use Reed or Sullivan, lefty-lefty be damned.

That's all I thought. If we have this rubber-armed vet pitcher who is known to be able to occasionally fake it with the bat, why lift him after 81 pitches just to turn the bat over to Angel Berroa (who is also faking), and the mound over to the same beaten-down guys?

The season with Sean Green:

  1. Use him sparingly until he gets good.

  2. Use him aggressively until he gets bad.

  3. Repeat until fired.

I believe that is the Mets attitude towards relief pitching in general. The only way to remain successful is to be one of those guys who can get it done 5 nights in a row like Turk Wendell.
