"Those were big political players - they were the Babe Ruths and Mickey Mantles of their day," said Bill Cunningham, a former chief of staff to Moynihan and a longtime adviser to Mayor Bloomberg. "Now it's almost like the Mets have taken over." ]It used to be that political giants represented New York in the U.S. Senate - towering figures like Robert F. Kennedy, Daniel Moynihan and Hillary Clinton. One of whom actually lived in the state. This is the same sort of article we see in the sports sections all the time; writers whining about the lack of "superstars" to write about because they think covering these lesser mortals makes their job more boring and less important. And isn't that really what it's all about?
