he's perfect through 5 tonight, retiring a new major league record 42 batters in a row.

Jermaine Dye homered in the 6th to give Buehrle a run to work with.

As hot as Buehrle is that may be enough.

That's a pretty sick record to hold.

He was 0-2 on him too before losing him.

I tell you, watching Buehrle is a pleasure. I clicked over between ABs of the Met game and he threw at least 5 pitches before the next batter walked to the plate in our game.
That game's in the 7th inning and it's just 1:40 old.

Buehrle falling apart (relatively) gives up 3 in bottom 7 and is pulled trailing 4-1

In other O-o-T news, Marlins' Ross Gload hits a 2R PH HR in the 9th to beat Atlanta (we were going to game on someone in this tilt and I'd prefer it be the Braves

Buehrle works quickly and throws strikes. Two attributes that more pitchers should emulate.

In his postgame interviews following his perfect game Buehrle said <paraphrase>I don't see any need to walk around the mound between pitches. Pitching isn't that hard. You get the sign, nod your head, and throw the ball. </paraphrase>

A quick side note (maybe this belongs in the "In The Booth" thread):

During the Mets post-game radio show tonight, Wayne Hagan said "Mark was relieved by ex-Houston Astro Octavio Dotel".

Methinks Wayne needs to take some additional classes in his Met-ucation.

Back to topic. Mark is a pitcher, in the finest sense of the word. When I saw the highlights of his perfect game, I don't recall seeing the radar gun top 87 MPH on any of his pitches. I agree with Doc, more pitchers should emulate him.

without a doubt. this is something that should be obvious even to people playing softball at the park... when you dont waste time between pitches the defense is more alert

Wayne's a mercenary. He's got no pedigree.

I don't want anyone doing Mets games that's not a) a former Met player or b) a lifelong Met fan. Gary, Howie, Ron, Keith. That's it.

I would deal with it better if he were a superlative radio guy, instead of just pretty good. But... he can't... seem to shake that habit...

... of letting his descriptions drag way behind the play.
