Just looking over the stats over at Baseball-Reference - Luis Castillo is leading the league in at-bats per strikeout, at 14 per. That's pretty impressive.

I'm not too impressed by that alone because slap-hitters shouldn't strike out anyway.

I'm impressed that he's drawing so many walks, given that he's not much of a threat to hit anything more damaging than a single. I'd have figured by now that pitchers would just throw him strikes. They seem to have done that with Cora, whose walk on July 31 was his first of the month (he already has as many walks in August as he did in July).

Castillo's always drawn a higher than average number of walks - although this is looking like his walking-est year ever.

it is min-boggling, because with a 3 ball count he should be getting BP fastballs down the pipe, at least with nobody in scoring position. its to his credit that he gets the walks anyway

I'd like to see the number of times he's taken the first strike he sees. It's got to be over 90%.

Not just first strikes, Luis swings at a smaller pct of total pitches thrown to him than anyone in the league.
