Things to see in En-Why-See (baseball only)

Hi there folks, your pal Bong is going to be in the City this week and he's looking for things to do vis-a-vis baseball, particularly our glorious National League history. No time for a ballgame sadly but I'm looking for old hangouts and so forth.

Isn't there a cafe in Brooklyn dedicated to the Dodgers? Maybe I can go there and talk to the owner to see if they can put an Ed Kranepool monument in the rotunda as a tribute to our first great disappointing Mets prospect.

Have a great trip!

Alas I am more of a Giants man, though with that said I've always wanted to go through the cemeteries of Brooklyn for old ballplayers. The guy from Third Bass (yes, really) wrote a book about it a few years ago.

Kranepool wasn't a disappointment. He had a respectable career and was much loved by Mets fans.

This one still hurts. So young -- especially now that I'm in my mid-40s, I think this.

You always have to wonder if the team would have been different in the mid-70s with Gil at the helm.

G-Fafif could probably give more detail, but the Brush Stairwell is still standing at the Polo Grounds site.

Not sure exactly where they play in Central Park, but a number of years ago there was a summer league with primarily Dominican players that played each evening. If they still play, it's good ball and good atmosphere.

Pick up this book. Light on the Mets, but I'm sure you can find tons of interesting places to check out
