Anyone have a experience using RS to learn or brush up on a language?

Grimm used it before he went to Japan and said good things. That thread's in the Member Promotion forum, I think. Someone gave me the Spanish one and it's pretty cool, I've just not applied myself enough. It's got visual, audio, and written (or typed as it were) portions to each lession.

I actually used Pimsleur, not Rosetta Stone. I used Pimsleur again this year to learn some German. It's tough to stick with, but it really seems to work. (You don't become anywhere near fluent, but it gets you off to a decent start.)

I considered trying Rosetta Stone for the German this year, but it's so expensive. (Pimsleur is too, but it's easier to get a less expensive used copy on eBay. I couldn't find anyone selling Rosetta Stone at a price I wanted to pay.)

mrs. sharpie just used pimsleur for Spanish for Peru and was enthusiastic about it. Her brother, however, used RS to learn Danish and thought highly of it. The price is way too high, however.

Oops. Thought you were a Rosetta Stone guy. Musta been thinking of the porn star.

I learned all the Spanish I know from Ralph Kiner telling the Yo La Tengo story.

Thanks for the laughs and input. Yes, RS is a little expensive and if you only
try out one level it's even worse than committing and buying a package deal.

I read Spanish rather well, it was my Regents major in high school. I think if
I took it up again in some formal way I could understand and speak enough
to get by rather quickly. There a chica from Ecuador at the supermarket that
flirts with me all the time, maybe I'll take on a 24 year-old mistress and prac-
tice on her ... although a mistress in the long run is probably more expensive
than Rosetta Stone.

A mistress is more expensive than the Rosetta Stone language tapes [u:307j7yze]plus[/u:307j7yze] the Rosetta Stone itself.

Not if you pick the right one.

The ones you have to fly to Argentina to see can be the most expensive of all.
