For SHaMe: Gay Dame IGT 8/5

How would you like to be the Mets today? Humiliated in a game you had in your back pocket, then brought out to do it again in a camp-day nooner when it's 130 degrees.

Opposite field homer by Wright into the bullpens? Don't see that much these days.
|

OH AWESOME.
|
Gwreck Aug 05 2009 10:36 AM |
My gameday just says "injury delay." Can you be more specific?
|
Ashie62 Aug 05 2009 10:37 AM |
I cant fucking believe it
|
Ashie62 Aug 05 2009 10:38 AM |
Looks like pulled hammy and knee collapse on other leg taking warmup toss
|
Gwreck Aug 05 2009 10:38 AM |
Does this injured player have a name?
|
Methead Aug 05 2009 10:39 AM |

Niese hurt his leg on a play at 1B... tried to throw a warmup pitch and fell down in a heap.
|
Ashie62 Aug 05 2009 10:40 AM |
That was a scary moment for Niese...
|

I think we just need to put David Wright on the DL now to prevent future injuries.
|

I cannot believe this. Poor Niese!
|

Figgy, say it with me, "helps his own cause" with a big 2-run triple.

I like these gay dames lately where so many runs are scored early that I only have to look in from time to time and not hang on every pitch.

I saw Bob Gibson do that one time. Hurt his leg changing directions while running the bases and insisted on coming out for warmups in the next half inning. He collapsed like a wet sand castle as soon as his stride leg hit ground.

I'm not so sure it's a good thing that pitchers have 4 of our last 10 RBIs

I'm curious to know if some of our long time fans have ever seen the like of this with the injuries .

A Modest Proposal: Forfeit all remaining games; turn scheduled home games into "Met rallies"/autograph sessions/fan-feedback events.

The way things are going this season, I'm starting to think that the show "Deadliest Catch" is about playing defense for the Mets.

1987 had a lotta pitching injuries. One after another. But nothing like this year, when two pitchers, subbing for other injured guys, injure legs running the bases or fielding. Crazy
|
Frayed Knot Aug 05 2009 11:52 AM |
'73 was the one I thought of too.

We're at 47 players and counting. Met record is... 54, in '67, right? (Anyone care to confirm?) '87 was when Leach held down a rotation spot for 15 games or so, right?
|
Frayed Knot Aug 05 2009 11:54 AM |
But, in the meantime, Holliday just whiffed w/the bases loaded and it's still 5-0 heading for bottom 5.
|
Edgy DC Aug 05 2009 11:59 AM |

In 1987, the entire pitching rotation disappeared at the start of the season --- excepting Sid Fernendez. Their sixth starter was David Cone and he ended up breaking his finger during a bunt attempt --- in injury that he would later claim gave his pitch added movement. And 2004 was no pic-a-nic with injuries to Floyd, Piazza, Matsui, Reyes, Scott Erickson. Victor Zambrano more or less arrived injured that year. 2005 wasn't as bad but they all came at once. The same day that Beltran and Cameron collided, Cliff Floyd went down hard. He was clearly in system shock pain throughout his body but he insisted on staying in, even as it took him 20 minutes or so to collect himself. Willie left him in and continued to play him and I hated Willie that day. Floyd was a wreck the rest of the season.

LOL.... Odds are in just now NY Mets are 4/1 to win this game.....unheard of odds in the betting parlors with a five run lead.

After being at Citi on Monday night and hearing the less-than-warm reception that Figueroa got, I hope he got cheered loudly today.

That sounds right -- I see 54 players in '67 (the team set an all-time record for most pitchers) and I doubt that's been topped.
|
John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 05 2009 12:14 PM |
In '67 it wasn't injuries though but vigorous turnover + some military commitments. Somewhere I did a list of guys by years... I wonder if someone has a database of that stuff.
|

This year's a bit like if the 1985 and 1987 injuries got rolled into one big lump, plus you took out Keith and, say, Backman for half a season, broke Teufel's hand so, say, Kelvin Chapman started 120 games, and Carter lost his power for a year.

Y'see now a good marketing dept would work in a NYM logo arm sling give-away before the season is out. Not that it's what THIS team will do; they'd be too sensitive to the issue and have no ability whatsoever to laugh at themselves.
