Yanx-v-Sawx and other O-o-T scores

Frayed Knot
Aug 06 2009 04:23 PM

Sawx have beaten the Yanx 8-straight this year and still manage to trail them by 2.5 games. If their luck runs out this weekend (4-game set) they could see the Yanx head into run-and-hide territory.

Too bad we're not still in this thing in our division otherwise we would have been getting a kick out of the Nats not only sweeping the Marlins this week but doing so while coming back from 4-0 (Tues) & 6-0 (today) deficits.

Phils beat Rox as Cliff Lee tossed another good game.

OMFG , I just turned to the Boston game , the YES feed. kay mentions that Youkilis is playing LF and that Francona told him that if he made an error out there to point at him(Tito) because he put him out there.

Kay then says how hard a LF it is to play here , Singelton and O'Neill then talk about their experiences at playing LF here at MFY stadium....O'Neill says that when he came over from the Reds and was switched to LF here is was a tough transition.....Singelton talks about how hard a LF it is here...

they are talking about this new stadium like it never happened and that this is still the old one across the street.

Listening to the game on my flight home and heard John Sterling say, "It is high. It is far..." for three hitters in a row. (Jeter, Damon and Texiera). Only one of the ball was actually out.

The two boobs, Waldman and Sterling, have to be the worst announcers in baseball. He's also said on three instances how much he hates statsitics but goes on to rattle off three different retarded "facts."

What a douchebag.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Aug 06 2009 06:50 PM

While you were typing that, Piggy, you missed, like, five more dingers!

5-3 on a Melky Cabrera three-run shot (the only non-dying quail over the wall out of 4). Bases loaded, Smoltz coming out, Matsui coming up.

Wall-to-wall cheap home runs! Roughly 1/4 of the strategic decisions! THAT'S BASEBALL, E'BODY!

PiggiesTomatoes
Aug 06 2009 06:58 PM

I heard them. Favorite was Cabrera's. "The Melkman delivers!" As a bonus, Sterling also tosses us, "It's the Melky Way!"

Wow...a run just scored w/o benefit of a HR. Amazing!

Fuck.

Smoltz looks finished and so do the Sox tonight.

I'm not watching, but I don't get why everyone (not necessarily here) gets
all razzed up over the homer factor in that park thus far. I mean, the visiting
team is more than welcome to take advantage of the fences, no?

John Cougar Lunchbucket
Aug 06 2009 07:15 PM

The way Jobba the Fatt is pitching, the Sox may still make a game of it.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Met game ends sooner anyway.

Everything is harder in Yanqui Stadium ... everyone knows that.

What traditionally made LF in YS1 difficult was
a) that was the sun field
and
b) there was so much effing ground to cover

But what Kay & co don't realize is that
a) 90% of games are played at night now including (drum roll) THIS ONE!
and
b) that was two stadiums ago and this park is barely above average size in LCF

Smoltz can't get anyone out. Sox brass keeps talking like he's just thisfar away from "finding it" or whatever but he isn't getting better as he goes on.
That the Sox are giving him a regular spot in the rotation and just signed (re-signed really since he was theirs last) Paul Byrd means things aren't going too well in Chowder-land.

Byrd - 38 - didn't sign this winter thinking instead that he'd find someone who needed help at mid-season.

Fortunately, Jobba the Fat isn't doing much better.

End of the 5th inning and this game is already longer than like half the NYM games I've been fishing up in that 1969 thread.

And it's still going to take them over 3 hours to play 9 even though no one has scored and there are very few hits.

YANQUIS SUCK

Frayed Knot

Poor Michael Kay almost wet himself.

Jeter came up w/2 out in the 10th and a runner on 3rd in a still scoreless game causing Kay to go into the whole 'how many times have we seen him come through' routine - ignoring that Jeter had already made the last out in 3 different innings tonight (3rd, 5th & 8th) including once w/a runner on 3rd and once w/bases loaded.

He struck out.

Sox now batting in the 12th.

Sawx got some Japanese pitcher who's apparently working his first ever MLB game right now - and they've got no one left in the pen so it's his to win or lose.
Had a couple of screamers hit off him there but one at'em ball and one great running catch by JD Drew

I heard exactly ONE phone call on FAN today - it was a Yanqui fan calling to say that ARod is a "disgrace to the team"

Wonder if he wants to give the win back?

MFS62
Aug 08 2009 06:55 AM

I'm glad it was A-Rod and not Jeter.

Later

Frayed Knot
Aug 08 2009 07:00 AM

But Jeter scored the winning run don't you see? ARod's run was meaningless.
I mean, yeah, he went one-for-seven and left a small village on base in several game-winning situations, but he saved his one hit for when it really mattered and thus inspired Alex to his stat-padding hit.

Thank you, sir, for that reality check.

I watched his home run on my app. one thing about Gay-Rod that never changes is how he acts after hitting the home run , gets to the plate and it's like he is seeking out team mates to hug . I don't know but it's as if they want to avoid him...

There's been a Matt Franco sighting at YSIII today.
He's there checking out his [step-cousin's?] main squeeze along with his Uncle Kurt and kind of Aunt Goldie.

Oh, and just by the way, the Sox are being no-hit thru 5, meaning that they're now working on 20 scoreless innings w/just 4 singles.
Come to think of it they didn't score over the last 4 or 5 innings on Thursday night either.

Kong76
Aug 08 2009 03:47 PM

For a pitcher with a no hitter through five, some of these half innings
seemingly take forever. But it's a no hitter through five. No Red Sox
player has gotten a hit. There was an error, and I think a walk, but
there have been no hits. None. Not one. No hits.

metirish
Aug 08 2009 03:52 PM

Still only through five......are they fouling of ball after ball or something..even their game last night with two great starting pitching performances took forever....of course there is nothing that says a well pitched game should be fast but I can't stomach AL ball.

Bill Madden - after months of articles about how the NY teams and their 'barren' farms were doing things the wrong way while Theo's club and his build through the system method was the way to go - is suddenly praising Cashman's spending spree and mocking Theo's "cheapness" as the ALEast threatens to turn into a rout.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseb ... tml?page=0

Funny, innit, how the team on top is always the one who did things the right way to get there?

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr

Fresh off a three-game sweep at the worst team in the majors (Nats, natch), the Marlins are three outs and -7 runs away from sweeping the first-place Phils, behind a handful of big hits by Cody Ross and some nice pitching at the bandbox from Josh Johnson and the resurgent Ricky Nolasco.

Elster88
Aug 09 2009 05:55 PM

Nationals have won eight in a row. They were 40 games under .500 when they started that streak. SNY says that's the third best winning streak for a team that was 40 or more when the streak started.

Sawx finally score and even take a lead (2R HR from Victor Matinez) but then promptly cough up 4 runs and blow the game.

The debacle of this season would somehow be more tolerable if Josh, Cody, Hanley, et al. could win the division instead of the Phillies.

I don't feel that way at all. If (say) the Phils romp to a 100 win season I can sell myself the concept that at least they were really good, and then chortle when they lose in the first round of the divisional series.

However if the Marlins end up winning it with 88 games I go HOLY FUCK 88 GAMES. WE COULDN'T EVEN WIN 88 GAMES??????? IN A DIVISION WITH WASHINGTON??????

or something like that.

I get where you're coming from.

AND that feeling is drowned out by an mildly-evil wish to see the trash-talking 10-year-old (NORTH Jerseyan) Phils fan who lives down the block from my folks cry just a little; a last-month collapse to a team whose fanbase doesn't really care/exist would do the trick (If a lecture about the dangers of frontrunning ensues, from someone who cares about the little shmuck, all the better.)

Mike Francessa just said on WFAN that A-Rod's home run in the 15 th inning really wasn't a pressure situation because if they don't score there, they just play another inning.
