Hotline, with the best pitch-taking I've seen by a Met in the last five minutes.

(That's a Run Watched In for you in my book, guy.)

Aug 07 2009 08:21 PM

We sure as hell need this running start, considering who we're throwing out there on the mound tonight.

Ashie62
Aug 07 2009 08:22 PM

Ollie has two-make it so

Fman99
Aug 07 2009 08:24 PM

Nice start for the good guys. Let's see if Ollie decides to a) run with it, or b) shit on it.

Ashie62
Aug 07 2009 08:25 PM

a) run with it..Ashie has a feeling lol

Oliver Twist is out of the first..yippee

Fman99
Aug 07 2009 08:42 PM

Impressive - Ollie comes back from 3-0 to get the K.

Ronnie makes the same observation, this happens so rarely this year for him.

Kyle Blanks up, who apparently is Bill Brasky reincarnate.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr

"Did I ever tell you about the time that Bill Brasky hit a lazy, ineffectual fly ball to left?"

Nasty tail on those fastballs, no? I have a weird feeling about tonight.

Murphy appears to have caught whatever Tatis had before the last week or so.

Hey, Tatis may be 0-for-2, but he's seen two Frenchy-Games' worth of pitches so far tonight. (A sadly rare skill on the SHaMmers.)

I know he's not dead because I see him in the dugout but has Jerry been diagnosed with a terminal disease? Turned the game on last inning and it sounded as if Gary and Ron were eulogizing Manuel. Speaking to his humanity throughout all of this year's ordeals, etc. I'd half expected to hear that he'd been canned.

I'm chuckling to myself because I see that the second base umpire is listed as Randy Marsh.

John Cougar Lunchbucket

I confess to be listening in on the MFY game at the same time. Sterling did a "IT IS HIGH... IT IS FAR .... IT IS going to be caught in center field..." on Tiexera last inning. Still 0-0 there, top 12...

Caught a ride home from a co-worker with a Francesa habit. Ol' No-SugarTits was doing his weekly interview with Manuel... and he couldn't stop praising the guy for "not losing (his) sense of humor" and "proving (his) character." He sounded like a schoolgirl with neckfat.

Gary & Ron's "eulogy" was triggered by Burkhardt having filmed a kind of 'Day in the Life of Jerry' feature this afternoon.

Can't remember the last time the Schneid had a hit.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr

'Cause I can't think of another reason why Met batters have been swinging at everything the last three innings, when going the other route got 'em 6 hits and 2 runs.

Frankie's last 13 batters faced:

5 hits (1 1B, 3 2B, 1 HR),
4 walks (1 intentional),
1 error (Cora),
3 retired (1 K, 1 deep FO, 1 shallow PO)

= 7 runs

Edgy DC

Now, a sane takeaway from this game is, "Hey, that Stokes guy has sure earned a lookisee. Maybe we'll pull Rodriguez back until he re-asserts himself. Give Stokes a few shots."

Baseball don't work that way no more.

I didn't stay up but from reading this page obviously it was bad. Just watched the lowlights on my MLB app and wow Frankie is getting hammered throwing junk up there.

On the play at the plate to tie this up who made the cutoff throw , Schneider looked like he did all he cold with that throw.

Frayed Knot

="metirish"]On the play at the plate to tie this up who made the cutoff throw , Schneider looked like he did all he cold with that throw.

The newly called-up and just-in-for-defense Andy Handy is your culprit. He got rid of it quickly and the throw was hard - but putting it on the 1st-base side of the line is the worst thing you can do there, If anything err to the 3rd base side. Worst that happens there is the catcher gets killed.

And maybe I'm just imagining things but it seems that just about all our relay throws this year have been just off enough to prevent a bunch of outs. They're either in-between bounces, or on the wrong side, or whatever. That's why I thought it was a stupid move to send that big lug home - a better throw has him dead and there were no outs at the time. Of course when your closer faces 5 guys and retires none of them it kind of doesn't matter.

MFS62
Aug 08 2009 10:28 AM

On the pitch just before the slam, the batter was struck out. The replay showed the pitch got at least a few inches of the outside corner. But the ump called ball three.
Why?
I blame Schneider.
Instead of keeping his glove steady and "framing the pitch" for the ump, he caught the pitch and moved his mitt a few inches toward the center of the plate. That's called "pulling the pitch" and is a ploy catchers have used for ages to try to make umps think a pitch off the plate was really a strike.
In this case, I think the ump felt that Schneider was trying to fool him, and called it a ball without really seeing that the pitch was a strike.
Called strike three and who knows what the outcome is?

Later

I'm watching SNY HD Encore (the last three innings) and the bottom is about
to fall out. I think they need to change the name of the show dependent on
what they are replaying for jeebusake.

Edgy DC

I blame the ump when the ump blows a call.

Kong76
Aug 08 2009 01:25 PM

The replay shows didn't do that ending justice in just how craptacular that
was. That last AB was painful even knowing what was going to happen.
