IGT--Mets @ Padres, 08/08/09

bmfc1
Aug 08 2009 04:59 PM

METS:
Angel Pagan CF
Alex Cora SS
David Wright 3B
Daniel Murphy 1B
Jeff Francoeur RF
Cory Sullivan LF
Fernando Tatis 2B
Brian Schneider C
Bobby Parnell RHP (2-3, 3.74)

So it's been a week since Castillo fell and he's still out of the lineup. Add Sheff to the list of wounded and that means that the Mets have been playing two short since Wednesday.

Good luck to Bobby Parnell tonight.

Oh boy, this is gonna be great!

Why Jerry keeps throwing Brian Schneider out there, I have no freaking clue.

Because he's well paid? Omir deserves more time. Let em split time for the rest of this shitfuck year.

I guess Schneider "know' Parnell

Who is Matt Latos?

Good question ... and since I just discovered it was my turn to do the SD KTE but had no freakin clue, I guess I better answer it

A not-yet 22 y/o, 6' 5" rookie right-hander making his 5th major league start tonight - that's who!

Starting from the unheralded beginnings of being an 11th round draft pick out of an Alexandria Virginia HS in 2006, he seems to have starting hitting his stride in 2008 as he shot through several levels of the Padre system. By the beginning of this season it was 4 quick games in the (low-A) Midwest League followed by 9 dominating starts in AA San Antonio. During those combined 13 games (11 starts) he racked up some ridiculous numbers (8 - 1; 1.37 ERA; 42 hits in 72 IP; 73 Ks to 12 BBs; 0.75 WHiP) which earned him a free trip to Sandy Eggo where, so far anyway, he hasn't missed a step: 4 starts; 23.2 IP; 15 Hits; 16 Ks/6 BBs; 0.89 WHiP (3 -1 record).

Surely you do. It's because the alternatives aren't going to overwhelm.

Here I am. Same bar. Same stool. Same me.

Edgy DC

Hey, Cora shows heart.

I'm listening to Tony Gwynn. What a pleasure. Except, you know, the voice.

Edgy DC
Aug 08 2009 08:26 PM

Cory showing heart also. It's in the name. Francoeur, your turn.

Valadius
Aug 08 2009 08:27 PM

That's Cora's first homer since 2007.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Aug 08 2009 08:30 PM

Unexpected, indeed.

Somewhat more predictable: young Mr. P has thrown 25 pitches already, and-- gas and all-- is having trouble missing bats.

Fman99
Aug 08 2009 08:34 PM

Problem! I've been drinking since 6 PM, yes, EST. Go Mets! or something resembling that.

Bobby's gotta be nervous. Got out of that jam, though.

Let's turn 3.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Aug 08 2009 09:15 PM

Bobby couldn't be laboring more if he were building a monastery out there.

If he makes it through this inning, he'll be up near 80 pitches.

21/3 innings.....68 pitches is what did it...walks too....I was briefly excited at the prospect of Bobby starting

Ir occurs to me that Nelson is probably more worried about pitching for his ticket on the plane back to NY

17th time the Mets walked in a runner from 3rd this year. Is that what he said?

Mets bullpenners: helping wayward runners make their way peacefully home since September 2008.

I think the Mets could use some inspiration:

Some would say 1999.

Great interview with Dick Williams.

And another Met opponent showing them up in terms of honoring former contributors with a team HoF event.

15 walks plus 2 HBPs in bases loaded situations.

Schneider has officially gone below the Mendoza line for the year.

This umpiring crew is having about as bad a series as our own Disableds.

Payback! Although it looked like they actually made the right call.

edit : Huh... maybe they did blow it. I thought his hand was above the plate but they just showed an angle that made it completely obvious.

Three games so far, and Angel Hernandez has had the least ostentatiously-bad evening behind the plate. Go figure.

(Oh, and shut up, San Diego-- you're not allowed to boo if you bring multiple beach balls to a game.)

Maybe a 1-2-3 inning by a NYM pitcher?

Am I seeing things or is that Luis Castillo at the plate?

I'd say that this Mets version is worser. Wright and Pagan were the only starters on-basing over .326. This month's lineups are about as putrid as anything Joe Torre ever had to drag out during the bad old years of the two-button pullovers.

Check out the big # "5" honoring George Brett at the Royals Hall of Fame. Makes more sense than our big "42".
