I think every hitter the Mets started with has hit the DL save these four.

Wright , but of course this thread will jinx him .

It's like "Harper's Island" in pinstripes/blacks/snow-whites!

It has to be Reed... but only after he takes over, say, second base and slugs .700 for September.

(In all seriousness, any sort of realistic gauge I've got for these injuries is out the window at this point.)

The answer is Reed, of course.

I voted Reed too, mainly because he'll have less opportunity to get hurt.

Wright is out there every day.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr

Since it's increasingly difficult to enjoy this team on any sort of conventional level, a thin slice of my animal brain is probably going to be watching the rest of the season with a sick sort of focus, like America does NASCAR-- waiting for the inevitable flaming wreck.

Reed is the least useful of the four, so of course he'll be the last one standing.

The results of this poll seem to suggest that we are fairly confident Tatis and Murphy will not survive the season without sustaining injury.

Nah, it suggests that all of us are either delusional (those who believe Wright will remain healthy) or cynical (those who believe that of course everyone is going to get hurt except the crappiest player on the list).

I'm going with delusional ... I'd like to see Wright get wicked hot and win the
batting title in spite of the cards the team's been dealt.

Edgy DC
Aug 06 2009 02:33 PM

I'm pretty confident he will. He's only 12 points off the lead as it is.

Kong76
Aug 06 2009 02:37 PM

Wicked hot, like tssst.

Many of us are going to watch anyways, might as well have some fun too.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Aug 06 2009 03:35 PM

He'd be the first, no? (Damn you, Willie McGee.)

Kong76
Aug 06 2009 03:49 PM

Didn't even think of that ... added historical pleasure.

I voted for Reed, since Manuel rarely let's him play. Tough to get hurt in the dugout. Of course, Castillo disproved that theory.

Mets-Phillies:

Shift on for Ryan Howard. Victorino on second. Howard hits a high pop to shallow right field that causes 1B Murphy, RF Reed and SS Tatis to collide. 2B Castillo retrieves dropped ball, fires it to the plate-- his throw hits and injures a concered 3B Wright, who has hastened to the scene of the collision.

All four go on the DL simultaneously in a fitting conclusion to 2009.

Perfect...with Wright leading the league in hitting at the time

All the Wright voters are losers. Reed the only other one who has any votes.

Ha! I knew enough not to vote in this evil poll.

One thing I think we overlook from last year's collapse and such is that surgery ended Tatis season a few weeks early, and may (or may not) have contributed to his lackluster fallback this season.

I think a trophy has to go to Pelfrey, for being the last man standing in the starting rotation. The bullpen --- knock wood verneer --- has been relatively healthy.

I hope that trophy isn't too heavy.

In the case of Tatis, the old saying might be true - if you can't run fast you can't pull a muscle.

Pelf missed a couple of starts with tendinitis earlier this year, no? (Think: first 2009 Nelly Figs sighting.)

Hey, man, he kept of the DL and didn't get released. That's a trophy where I'm a-sittin'.

You know who WOULD have missed more than two starts this year, all cryin' and crap, had he been a starting pitcher?

A hint: his name rhymes with "Byan Thurch."

(Also, slow clap on both the trophy and the chart.)
