Statements from the club:

Reyes "The MRI showed significant scar tissue and inflammation behind the right knee, related to the hamstring tendon injury, which has caused continued pain. Reyes will remain in New York for manual physical therapy in an effort to break up the scar tissue and reduce the inflammation."

BP's Will Carroll and his "inside info" on injuries adds; "Done for ‘09, surgery still option, but not a predictable option."

On Niese they say;
"Jonathon Niese has been admitted to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. An MRI this afternoon revealed a complete tear of the right upper hamstring tendon from the bone. He will undergo surgery for its repair. Niese is out for the remainder of the season and is expected to be ready for Spring Training."

Carroll adds; Surgery already done to re-attach. Should make full recovery, but timing is unknown.

Yeesh. This is the last muscular/tendon injury of "tear from the bone" severity that I can recall since Piazza's groin rip while checking his swing.

I am intensely curious as to who Carroll's "contacts" are; at least half of the time, he's getting information that seems against HIPA regulations and/or requires bribery or a grappling hook to obtain.

i don't know enough about the surgical option for reyes here - like why would it necessarily be so unpredictable? i'm thinking the only thing you'd go in there for is to clean up some of the scar tissue, and i guess what could go wrong is that the body reacts to its absence by creating more?
