METS:
Angel Pagan CF
Luis Castillo 2B
Gary Sheffield LF
Daniel Murphy 1B
Jeff Francoeur RF
Fernando Tatis 3B
Omir Santos C
Anderson Hernandez SS
Oliver Perez LHP (2-3, 5.97)

Anderson Hernandez: your starting SS for the rest of the season. And his backup is Wilson Valdez. Holy crap.

It's Lowe v. Ollie, otherwise known as "Omar's choice."

Pedro is starting on Sunday. Standing O?

Ryan Church wasn't happy w/Jerry's comments about him but will "take the high road."

Good gosh almighty, how Oliver Perez stinks. Stinks to the highest level of stinking. And the Mets have to pay him through 2011. How I look forward to Omar's firing.

Looks like a wrong choice so far.

I still don't want Lowe

Not a big fan of (not so) clever sourness.

Or is that sour cleverness?

2nd base ump is missing a good game.
OK, it's a sucky game but he's still missing it.

In 44 years of watching the Mets, pound for pound, this is the worst team in Mets history bar none

So in an alternate universe would a pitcher like Lowe who got hot and
bothered after taking one off a glove finger and coughed up a nice lead
afterward while pitching for a crappy team like the Mets ... er, I forgot
where I was going with that.

Sorry.

Nice job settling-- or, rather, of not completely and immediately imploding-- by Ollie.

Fell asleep in the middle of the third. Did I miss anything?

Just when you want to stick a fork in these fuckers, they put together an inning like that. A fucking mazing.

Oh, yeah. Trade Murphy! ;-)

Aug 18 2009 07:11 PM

I never thought of this before. Bases loaded, a pop up to a vet player at
third and infield fly rule is called and he catches it. Batter is automatically
out, of course. Has anyone ever seen someone let it drop, fake boot it, or
something else to see if he could get some young player off base enough
to get another out or get some of the guys on base running or thinking
about running out of not knowing the rules to heart?

I did it in a softball game (and, yes, it worked).

I've seen IFR pops not caught in MLB (dropped or windblown) but I don't think ever intentionally and never saw a runner fooled by it.

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Aug 18 2009 07:30 PM

Never seen it actually work, myself.

Now, Elmer? That works fine.

The other one we used to do was watch when a batter didn't run following a pop up with only runner on 1st. Then we'd intentionally let the ball drop and get the DP while the batter was walking back to the bench assuming he was going to be out on the catch.

Man did that piss people off! They'd be so embarrassed they'd try to claim it was illegal but a smart ump wasn't buying it.

Nymr83
Aug 18 2009 07:42 PM

no the best is when someone doesnt run out a grounder because htey think they're out... then you ROLL the ball to 1st base for the force.

Glad to see we finally gave Derek F. Lowe the pounding he so richly deserved.

Best inning since the Floyd/Beltran grand slams in Chicago a few summers ago?

Church didn't get much of a hand or anything, although that partly may have been due to Diaz having just hit a 3 run bomb.

Fun moment on the 7 train when a tourist couple from the British isles asks "why were they booing that one guy, Jones, so much?
