P. Martinez rhp

METS:
Angel Pagan CF
Luis Castillo 2B
Daniel Murphy 1B
Jeff Francoeur RF

In looking for the Phillies lineup, I found this lovely video from last night's game:

I don't think that SNY would show a fight. Stay classy, Philadelphia.

Everyone who thought Werth wasn't going to hit a three run homer please
go weed the garden, clean out the trunk, or do something else NOW!!!

Nice to know that Omar will be keeping his job, according to today's [u:xqbub2b0]Post[/u:xqbub2b0], given that Omar will be subjecting us to Ollie through 2011.

Werth may come across as a cocky SOB but I wish he was a Met.

Guy who hasn't started in three weeks and batting .128, single on the first pitch. Hey, 6-0.

3 -0 count on the opposing pitcher in the first and Manuel pulls Ollie......what a shame

PiggiesTomatoes
Aug 23 2009 11:37 AM

If that isn't a kick in the balls! Thanks, Jerry.

Let's see what Figgy can do. No hitter from this point? Now that would be funny.

2010 audition time for Nelson. I hope he pitches well enough, and Jerry leaves him in the game long enough, to show he belongs.

Later

Small victories: seeing that jackass Victorino embarrass himself.

I'm trying to think of the least painful way to get Ollie off the payroll short of crime, organized crime? maybe

Wow, I'm surprised I'm actually able to follow a Mets game from Italy. Of course there it's the afternoon. Here I'm getting ready for a late dinner. And the Mets are exactly the same as I left them.

Took a two hour nap today and missed the first several innings and I challenge anyone to tell me watching this game would've been a better way to spend my afternoon.

Wild pitch, 9-5 Phillies.

So Francoeur could have gotten tossed by arguing and then the umpires end up correcting the call.

Amazing.

Well, I've always wondered if I'd ever see an unassisted triple play... I guess I can cross it off the list now.

What was the point of putting the runners in motion? If Jerry doesn't, that's a single and the bases are loaded w/none out. If they're down by one, OK but two? No, especially when the trail runner, the important runner because he's the tying run, is slow. Classic over-managing by Jerry.

You're fucking kidding me. I can't fucking believe that he would try and fucking do that. Next, you'll fucking tell me that Angel Hernandez tried to insert himself into a fucking ballgame. Imfuckingpossible.

STATS says it's the second. May 31, 1927 was the other time (Johnny Neun, liner-step-tag for Detroit, preserving a 1-0 win over Cleveland).

I thought it was pretty incredible that I went to a game and saw two three-run homers in the top of the first, a starter pulled with a 3-0 count to the opposing pitcher after 45 pitches, a leadoff inside-the-park homer in the bottom of the first, a triple follow that, a poor-hitting pitcher drive in a run, the inside-the-park homer-hitter hit a homer outside the park and the return of an icon to face his old club. Also, Pat Misch in the middle innings giving up nothing was pretty special.

Apparently, prior to the ninth, I hadn't seen nothing yet.

In related news, I learned from those sitting around me that the Beach Boys of Mike Love were a lock to sing the National Anthem (they didn't); that Carlos Delgado has an option for next year (he doesn't); that Billy Wagner couldn't be used because once you're claimed on waivers you're ineligible (no such rule exists); and that Wagner, warming up in the bullpen wears No. 34 (Wagner wears 13; Mike Pelfrey wears 34; the pitcher warming up was No. 64, Elmer Dessens).

CBS gamecast actually had Wagner warming up at some point in the 8th, whether that was a mistake or not i dont know

Wagner did warm up, but it was after the dissertation from the scholars in the row behind me.

What's your threshold for factual corrections? Is said threshold more dependent on the egregiousness of the error, or is it based more on the scholar's/s' volume?

you get alot of that, at weekend day games especially. i've found the people sitting around me to be much smarter on freezing cold or rainy weeknights in April. i guess theres something about the early start and the heat that attracts the morons who would never show up to watch a game in the cold after work on a thursday

Of course when the morons who would never show up to watch a game in the cold after work on a Thursday are warm in their homes, they may divine a sense of intellectual superiority over those of us shivering at the ballpark despite our working knowledge of rosters and rules.

Here's something else for this bizarre baseball day: a Mets minor leaguer threw a no-hitter!

From Brandon Moore, no-hit whiz of Coney Island:

]"I love playing in Brooklyn. They say it's the closest you can get to playing in the big leagues without playing in the big leagues."

And I thought that's what they said about the Mets.
