Who are these people?

metirish
Aug 27 2009 08:50 AM

Sullivan made a great throw last night to get his man at 2nd base. Jerry has taken to calling his new five man rotation the fabulous five .

Swan Swan H
Aug 27 2009 08:51 AM

And in the land of the handless the one-handed man bats cleanup.

Hard to imagine another team fielding a worse lineup.

Benjamin Grimm

My rooting interest for this team has been reduced to hoping they avoid 90 losses.

90? We should be rooting to avoid 100. This team is honestly that bad right now.

Benjamin Grimm

I'm trying to be an optimist!

Can't see us avoiding 90 losses, I'm hoping to finish ahead of the Nats.

Benjamin Grimm

We can't really expect him to be perfect.

Meanwhile, Anderson Hernandez ties it up by doubling home Tatis.

Benjamin Grimm
Aug 27 2009 11:45 AM

A Florida error and a ground-rule double by Daniel Murphy gives the Mets a 3-1 lead.

Edgy DC
Aug 27 2009 11:46 AM

Freaking Mets have a rally going with three home in the second.

Jerry probably already searching for the elusive bullpen lockdown formula.

Ashie62
Aug 27 2009 11:53 AM

Booth hailing Anderson Hernandez leadership ability...

Beyond that the over/under for Mets losses might be 90

Thankfully, the Nats had a 5 game losing streak

Edgy DC
Aug 27 2009 12:04 PM

Your attention, please. Anderson Hernandez was just intentionally walked. I repeat: Anderson Hernandez has been intentionally walked. We ask you to remain in your homes while the authorities address the situation. That is all.

Good tweet from Dave Lennon:

lenno212 Today's #Mets lineup = $11 M; H.Ramirez + Uggla = $10.85 M. Damn those big-market #Marlins.

An RBI single for Fracoeur, and the Mets have knocked out the starter in the fourth.

In the top of the fifth, Anderson Hernandez followed an Omir Santos double with a single of his own. We ask you to huddle in your basements and listen for the siren. Keep plenty of fresh water nearby and ration carefully.

My first thought was Rollie Fingers.

Did Ronny Paulino just pick Santos off third?

Anyhow, RBI single for The Terror in the Two-Hole, Wilson Valdez.

Edgy DC
Aug 27 2009 12:41 PM

Two-run double for Murphy and the rout is on!

"Omar Santos out at home on runner's fielder's choice"

Someone please 'splain.

Benjamin Grimm
Aug 27 2009 12:41 PM

There was a wild pitch, Santos started heading home, but the ball bounced back more quickly than he expected, and he scrambled back to third base, but not in time.

Mets now up 7-1. The Marlins are looking like a very bad team today.

HahnSolo
Aug 27 2009 12:41 PM

Single, double, walk.

Sadly, this might be a career day for Anderson Hernandez.

That's "single double, intentional walk." Ho-ho!

OE: And Francoeur singles Murph and the Magictones home! This is the best Mets team ever!

Jose "Wally Pipp" Reyes might want to get his ass back in the lineup or watch Wilson run away with his job!

Memo to Tim:
Try a different pitch with the guy the next time you face him.

Redding has made it to the 7th! But Uggla leads of the inning with a long home run to left that's just fair.

Redding had 80 pitches his last outing, and he's close to that number now.

Later

Edgy DC

Benjamin Grimm

Tatis just hit the ball, on a fly, over the outfield wall.

I find myself unfamiliar with such a phenomenon.

Edgy DC
Aug 27 2009 01:31 PM

They have a name for those. I read about it once.

What did he do? Is it like a foul and he has to keep batting?

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr
Aug 27 2009 01:40 PM

What the hell have I stumbled into here?

AndyNandy an offensive threat?

Fair balls over walls? For US?

We're on a hellmouth, aren't we? Christ, we're playing on a frigging hellmouth.

Wait... what happened? Did Stokes not pitch to a batter? The only way that happens is if there's an... injury.

Edgy DC
Aug 27 2009 01:44 PM

We need to look into that.<img src="http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_434958.jpg" align="right">

You know, no matter how many 2009 Mets come and go, it's opening-day Met Sean Green who looks like he's going to run away with Most Thoroughly Baked Looking 2009 Met.

Meanwhile, Pagan ball-over-wall ball.

I'm getting frightened now. This isn't funny anymore.

Well, if it isn't, then... wait... what are you trying to say about LWBH?

Also, all 8 starters have two hits each. MAJOR disturbance in the Force.

I guess it was a typo... now Stokes is in the game and on the mound.

Only the 4th time this season the Mets have scored 10 runs or more.

First time since July 25th.

Five pitchers in a 10-3 game that was 8-3 after 7.

Jerry loves his match-ups. Or maybe he was just trying to get the bullpen some work.

90? We should be rooting to avoid 100. This team is honestly that bad right now.

The Mets need to go 5-28 to avoid 100 losses. (I think they should be able to do THAT!)

They have to go 15-18 to avoid 90. That will be tough.

(These numbers include today's loss to the Cubs, by the way.)

When they started to play poorly in July I said they'd go 71-91, it looks like that was optimistic.

Benjamin Grimm
Aug 28 2009 03:19 PM

If they win one third of their remaining games (which is a pretty bad pace) they'll end up 69-93.

I think your 71-91 seems pretty reasonable at this point.
