METS: Angel Pagan CF Luis Castillo 2B David Wright 3B Jeff Francoeur RF Fernando Tatis 1B Nick Evans LF Omir Santos C Anderson Hernandez SS Mike Pelfrey RHP (9-9, 4.80) Rockies: C. Gonzalez cf S. Smith lf T. Helton 1b T. Tulowitzki ss B. Hawpe rf G. Atkins 3b C. Barmes 2b Y. Torrealba c J. De La Rosa p Welcome back D. Wright who is wearing a fancy new batting helmet tonight. It would have been nice to see Thole right away. He'll start Thursday. Wright rests tomorrow. Sheffield is still aching which could mean pissed for not being traded. Almost every team has added 3 or 4 players. The Mets added one. The Mariners added Mike Carp and Jason Vargas who were in the Putz deal.

In honor of Wright coming back, ehem... He's been pretty sucky in his 27th year Now heading to a place where Church was hurt before Could his past be behind him, or could he be born again Might 2010 be the same as the years before Prior to this year Wright seemed far and away The Met leader and the team's heart and soul But this team is now broken So does he really care? The season ended fast and the end won't be too long Colorado Rocky Mountain High Can Wright launch balls into the sky Instead of trying to softly hit line drives Rocky mountain high, Colorado...

Re: IGT--Mets @ Rockies, 09/01/09

Sheffield might not play in the field for the rest of the season. Omar justified not trading him because he wanted to keep a competitive team on the field (why start now?) and he can't play anyway. Well done, Omar!

If not in the field then where?

Well, technically two, asincluding Wright. I hear he might be pretty good.

Re: IGT--Mets @ Rockies, 09/01/09

1st inning: - Mets hit four (consecutive) liners plus get a walk and an error - Rox hit nothing hard the whole inning and we have a whopping one-run lead out of all that. Pagan hits well, fields well, and runs the bases like an absolute moron. And I don't know what to think about Pelfrey these days. Losing guys with the bases loaded after an 0-2 count, botching a sure GiDP ball, ...

Re: IGT--Mets @ Rockies, 09/01/09

Pagan had a real "Heath Bell Jr." moment on the basepaths there. Not pretty. Meanwhile, Pelf throwing pitches straight enough to merit inclusion in geometry textbooks.

Re: IGT--Mets @ Rockies, 09/01/09

I would excuse it if that were Pagan's first brain-fart - but it's about his eightieth it seems. And I was just about to say that Pelfrey's pitches can't be too straight because no one has hit one hard yet ... and as I'm typing he gives up a bomb. But his main problem was getting the ball over the plate. No one in that 1st inning hit the ball hard or out of the infield.

Wanna see a Buffalo Bisons triple play from tonight? Go to the Buffalo Bisons website--for some reason, I'm having trouble linking to it--A. Reyes to Rivera to Lamb.

Can this mutha-fuckin' team do anything right?!?! Our base-running fuck-up negates a big inning. Their base-running fuck-up CAUSES a big inning to get even bigger.

In a shitty season Pelfrey for me is a huge disapointment.

Wright's head does look like a peanut in a fishbowl with that helmet. Plus he keeps pushing it back down on his head like he feels it's going to rise up and take off on him.

Yeah, why not give up a couple more walks Pelf, it's not like they're going to cause the game to get out of hand or anything.

Another banner start for the tall glass of water. Big Mike has really taken a step back this season. I blame Warthen, but then again I love to point fingers.

At some point, you gotta start looking at Dan Warthen for the horrendous pitching of this season. Leading the galaxy in walks ought to get somebody fired.

Re: IGT--Mets @ Rockies, 09/01/09

The pitching has been in the middle of the pack --- though fading. I'm not defending or endorsing Dan Warthen, but there's a lot more bloodlust than facts going around.

Re: IGT--Mets @ Rockies, 09/01/09

I really thought Pelf was going to step up this season. He could use the Santana injury to claim to be the new ace and assume the role of the best pitcher left standing. But he can't do that and pitch like absolute crap. I know it must be demoralizing to stand on the mound, look around you and see a much of people who should be making plans to hit the Niagara Falls bars after the game instead of being on the Mets. But this is just rolling over.

Bloodlust is fine. As far as I know, we're not running the team. So there's really no need to view things dispassionately. By the way, even with Wright back, this is a sad team to roll out there each evening. At least we're not the Cubs. They suck without nearly the injuries the Muts have had this season.

8 triples in 225 or so at-bats. Not too shabby. Nice job, Angel.

As long as I'm not being compensated for making decisions for the team, I frankly don't feel compelled to be "smart." I can be a fan -- good, bad or ugly.

Fine, be good, bad, or ugly. I never said or even implied that the Mets management was smart, so please don't try to reframe the argument around things I'm not saying.

1. There's was no argument (based on any definition of the word). 2. I didn't reframe anything. 3. I never said that you said Mets management was smart. I've gone back and reread my post any believe you're seeing things that aren't there and I surely didn't intend. I'm done. You can post and have the last word. Good night.

I wonder if there's a stealth sabermetric, not visible on my radar, that would indicate that he is a real prospect rather than just a roster-filler. Later
