Okay, trivia time...

There have been 34 Mets who debuted on or after September 1, and never again played for the Mets in any subsequent seasons.

The challenge: Name them!

The hints are below, the year and date of their debut.

Charlie Greene is one of the '96s. Manny Hernandez is one of the '89s. Joe Nolan is one of the '72. Since I don't remember him pitching last year, I'll say Willie Collazo is one of the '07s, albeit with multiple spellings.

Oh, and Brian Ostrosser is from '73.

Re: Think "September callup" and who comes to mind?

Greg Harts in for Brian Ostrosser, 1973.
Jeff Gardner backing up Tony Castillo, 1991.
Mike Fyhrie, pitching to Charlie Green, 1996.

Oops, the switchover led me to forget about this thing.

Anyway...

Yes to Harts, Gardner, Fyhrie, Candelaria, Hudson, and Chance.

No to the other Pedro Martinez and to Jorge Toca.

No, I think Greg was the founder of the appreciation society for the Mets very own Ham Fighter.

As he put it, there were two kinds of Ham: Ham you have, and ham you lack.

Pretty good recall...sort of. That was a line Jason quoted from a Bosox-lovin' friend of his. Personally, I could have kept lacking Hamulack and been fine with it.
