Stella is One!

Our daughter Stella turned one year old last month. For those who have read this board for a while, you know that the first birthday is a pretty big deal for Koreans. These are pictures from her party.

We invited the same number of people as we invited to my son's party three years ago. But because our friends have had so many kids, the number of guests was nearly double. Which means FREE ICE SCULPTURE!!!!

Stella's birthday cake. (Yes, it blew away our wedding cake.)

Due to an extended nap, Stella was late. Which did not sit will with certain guests (This is her cousin Calen, the picture was too cute not to post.)

The delay did give everyone a chance to lick the ice sculpture to see if your tongue gets stuck (it does not).

After 45 minutes, the diva finally makes her arrival. She instantly tells her cheek-pinching fans to back the fuck off.

Big brother Ryan gave the introductory remarks. "Take my sister...please!"

After lunch, it was time to change into the traditional Korean garb...

...and pick her destiny. The pencil and paper means she will be a scholar, the string longevity, microphone is for performer, the golf club means she's destined for the LPGA, the money is self-explanatory, the stethescope is doctor, the bowl of something, I can't remember, and the tennis ball is the ancient Korean symbol for winning Wimbledon.

Stella was not in the mood to choose her destiny...

...but ultimately settled on a career in medicine.

Then it was time to sing "Happy Birthday" and cut the cake.

Then pictures.

Unexpectedly, during her solo pictures, Stella decided it was time to perform an aria.

Like any good aria, it has its tragic moments...

...but it does end on a rejoiceful note.

There was music...

...and storytime...

...and BUBBLES!!!!

After the party, Stella contemplated whether or not the party was satisfactory to her. She ultimately decided "It was ok. Now, about my Sweet Sixteen..."

The pictures were taken by my friend Spencer. He is a wedding photographer. Visit his website: www.5weststudios.com NOW!!!!

Good luck with the medicine. Enough Kims on the LPGA leader board anyhow.

Great photo essay.

I always thought of this when I heard the name 'Stella':

Now, I'll think of this:

When I think of pre-school productions I don't normally think of 'The Mikado' but kids are much more advanced than they were in my day.

And, yes, I know 'The Mikado' is Japanese but work with me here people!

Thanks again to the good people here who set it up.

Edgy, could you post the link for the non-facebook site if it's still active? My old link doesn't seem to work.

I'm not on Facebook yet. I've been meaning to set up an account. I will certainly request your friendship when I do.

Thanks for the good wishes guys. The party was a blast, and the pictures don't tell the half of it.

Look for the aria on iTunes next week.

Agreed, cute kids CF! Great pics too.

Beats the hell out of my "Fgirl smearing icing on her own face and then blaming the plastic Dora doll that adorned the cake" bit. Though those pics have merit also. (From her age 2 party held last month)

What we really need to do is organize a "CPF family" day, for all those CPF'ers out there with younguns like these.

Let all the women chase the kids around the concourse whilst the men knock back frosty beerliciousness.

Yeah, I actually almost added a caveat when I typed that. No offense, but I suspect more of the wives (not yourself) are more about the hobnobbing than the Mets-watching.

I hobnob while watching. I call it multi-tasking :)

Figured a soccer and little league mom for a white wine drinker, even a spritzer drinker.
