Becoming A Man

After literally years of planning, tomorrow is MK's Bar Mitzvah.

He has been working hard, and I'm already incredibly proud of him. I expect tomorrow to be a celebration of the wonderful young man he has become and the man he is on his way to being.

The photo is from the rehearsal the other night. We can't take pictures during services, but during the rehearsal I had a chance to photograph him reading from the Torah. So technically he's already a man, but tomorrow it will be official.

Will he be able to wear that Mets yarmulke during the actual ceremony?

You can wear whatever kipah/yarmulke you want in synagogue. At least that's been my experience. So I'm going to guess yes.

Congrats to MK, I know bar/bat mitzvahs are trying ordeals for 13-year-olds. Tell him to enjoy himself, especially at whatever's going on afterwards.

BG - yes, that's the yalmuke he's planning on wearing tomorrow.

Thanks Val. We're all looking forward to the Mets-themed reception :)

Hard to believe one of my favorite Mets' fans is Bar Mitzvah age.

(where does one get their hands on one of those cool yarmulkes?)

Mazel tov to MK!

After meeting him briefly this year I can say that he is a fine young man. You should be proud of him MF.

Thank you Fman. And yes, I am :)

I got him a Boggle game.

Because the kid boggles the mind?

Seinfeld episode - (like from towards the end when they weren't very good anymore)

Ah. The post-Larry David episodes didn't stick with me.

Elaine buys her boss's kid a 'Boggle' game for his BM because she thought she was being invited just to up the gift haul - so she retaliates by going for the cheapest thing she could think of.

This is hard to believe. I can't believe he's already 13.

Pretty soon he's going to be out picking up chicks with FMan.

Congratulations metfairy. How was it?

LOL CF :)

It was lovely, thank you. MK really made us proud - he was composed and confident, and did a beautiful job with his prayers and Torah and Haftarah readings.

He also enjoyed the hell out of his party - he entered the hall like he owned the place, high-fiving his friends and smiling from ear-to-ear. After all of the work and preparation, he truly enjoyed the moment and savored the day.

I need to get my act together and finish sorting through all of the pictures (my friend, whom some of you confused for Ms. Met during the Blue Tarp Lounge game, took photos, with gorgeous supplemental photography supplied by dgw) so I can get my online album together and drop off my print picture order. I love the fact that I'll have our album in a week or so; my next door neighbor used a professional photographer last September for her son's Bar Mitzvah, and she STILL doesn't have her album!

Anyway, here's how the kid looked on the Bimah after services. Although I don't think that kid is the operative word any more....

Nice FB pics-- such a look of genuine satisfaction on boy-man's face. Most tov of mazels to Ross and the fam, madame.

Also, the blue-and-orange yarmulkes... priceless (and surprisingly tasteful).

See, this is what I would have done at my bar mitzvah.

Well my pad is very messy
I've got whiskers on my chin
And I'm all hung up on music
And I always play to win
I ain't got no time for lovin'
Cause my time is all used up
Just to sit around creatin'
All that groovy kind of stuff

I'm a man!
Yes, I am!
And I cant help but love you so!
I'm a man!
Yes, I am!
And I cant help but love you so!

Well if I had my choice of matter
I would rather be with cats
All engrossed in mental chatter
Moving where our minds are at
And relating to each other
Just how strong our wills can be
I'm resisting all involvement
With each groovy chick I see

I'm a man!
Yes, I am!
And I cant help but love you so!
I'm a man!
Yes, I am!
And I cant help but love you so!

I got to keep my image
While suspended from a throne
That looks out upon a kingdom
Full of people all unknown
Who imagine I'm not human
And my heart is made of stone
I never had no problems
'Cuz my toilets trimmed with chrome

I'm a man!
Yes, I am!
And I cant help but love you so!
I'm a man!
Yes, I am!
And I cant help but love you so!

Geez I didn't realize that was mosiac -- gorgeous!

Both boys did a good job and indeed the party was a blast!

PS Ross's classmates were better behaved than the other kid's :)

Of course, wearing that Mets yarmulke put MK at great risk. You're lucky he didn't injure his hammy dancing, joining Beltran, Wright, Reyes, Delgado, Putz ect on the DL for the rest of the reception!

Beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing.

That was incredible Greg. Rarely has a Bar Mitzvah been chronicled in such glorious context. Thank you!

FWIW, the other kid showed up at the first joint rehearsal wearing a Mets cap, so we knew that MK was in good company :)

G-F: My encounters with him these past few years demonstrate he was well on his way before last Saturday.

That was a nice piece, G-F.
I'm not sure how long I've known Ross, it's a long time now, he's always had a shine to him.

Kase - you've known him as long as you've known me. And you met him when he was a month shy of his 4th birthday (Fenway Park, July 2000).
