SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, AUGUST 2009 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for August 2009 is a first-time winner, ANGEL PAGAN. Pagan led the Mets in August with 6 home runs (SIX HOME RUNS! IN A SINGLE MONTH!) 19 runs, 19 runs batted in, 5 stolen bases, and a .563 slugging percentage. Angel's .301 batting average was only the fourth best on the Mets for August. (Luis Castillo hit .352, Jeff Francoeur came in second with .318 followed by Fernando Tatis' .310. Angel had an OBP of .348, trailing Castillo, .412, and Tatis, .352. Pagan's 9 walks tied for the team lead with Castillo. The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month for August is JOHAN SANTANA. This is the third time this year that Santana has been Pitcher of the Month, and the seventh time overall. Santana, whose season ended on August 20, led the Mets in August with a 3.94 ERA. He had a won-lost record of 1-1 in 4 starts. And the Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is, once again, BRIAN STOKES. Stokes had a 3.07 ERA in August in 16 games, pitching 14.2 innings. He had no wins, 1 loss, and no saves. This is Brian's third win this season (he also won in April and July) and fifth since he joined the Mets late in the 2008 season. I think the underused and ineffective Francisco Rodriguez looks depressing at number 21, and then I see the highly used and inneffective Schneider at 24. Brutal. Great work, though.

We may have to do an upgrade to keep the forum from crashing. The new version of the software has some useful bells and whistles, but mostly (pretty much all) on the admin side. A downside, though, is that it doesn't allow for HTML in posts.

Since June my Schaefer voting has been, well, nonexistent. So thanks to all who keep this up. Yes, Francisco looks pretty depressing at #21, especially considering he's only 4 spots ahead of Wagner, who pitched, what, 3 times?

i've been poor in my schaeffer voting. i'm trying to catch up, for the purposes of my own insanity, but everytime i start making headway, my online resources seem to throw up on themselves. throught the good graces of the internet faeries, i hope today to have caught up, and resume contributions for the final, meaningless month of the season.

Lots of depressing stuff in that list; - no starters in the top 5 - Tim Redding several spots ahead of both Pelfrey & Parnell - Andy Handy up above Wright - Misch & Dessens both ahead of Rodriguez And it's not like those role players are up there because they did so well, only that the supposed stars were that invisible. Add all that to the pre-season starting catcher hanging out in 25th place while not even injured and it adds up to a depressing month.

Before all is done, we'll hear that Schneider has been playing hurt. It may be true, it may be partially true, or it may be completely a smokescreen, but I'm certain we will hear it.

That the decent-though-hardly-great Brian Stokes has won the RPotM 5 times in the 7 months he's been here says a lot too -- although I'm not sure what.

The competition for the September awards could be interesting. Wright and Beltran are expected to return, so it might be tougher for guys like Francoeur, Castillo, and Pagan to keep up. (Pagan did well to capitalize on his August opportunity.) September's Pitcher of the Month? Pelfrey's the only previous winner who seems to have a shot. Figueroa, Redding, Parnell, and Misch will try to force me to put one of them on a Topps Retrocard.

Pelphrey didn't get his September off to a good start last night, so that opens the door for the others. Will it be a September to Remember for Nelson Figueroa and his blogging wife? Curious, who are the leaders as of today for player and pitcher of the year? Wright and Santana?

Actually, Santana and Santana. (He's the overall leading point getter for the season.)
