IGT--Cubs @ Mets, 09/04/09

Cubs: Fukudome, CF Theriot, SS Bradley, RF Ramirez, 3B Hoffpauir, 1B Baker, 2B Soto, C Fuld, LF Zambrano, P METS: Angel Pagan CF Luis Castillo 2B David Wright 3B Daniel Murphy 1B Jeff Francoeur RF Cory Sullivan LF Omir Santos C Anderson Hernandez SS Bobby Parnell RHP (3-7, 5.81) I guess Sheff still has back spasms. It couldn't be anything else, could it? Johan's at the park and said that he could pitch if the team was in the race. Duh--my fantasy team has Johan and is 2 points out of first... what more of race does he want? Get out there! Derek Lee is with his new baby and Soriano is "shut down" with a knee injury. Notes I found from Stats, Inc. while looking for the Cubs lineup: * The Cubs have won six of their last nine meetings with the Mets. * The Mets rank second in the NL with a .279 batting average since August 1. * Luis Castillo is hitting .359 at home this season - a .104 increase from his .255 batting average on the road. * The Cubs are 6-11 on their last two road trips with an average of only 3.4 runs scored per game. * Aramis Ramirez is hitting .349 with nine RBI in his last 11 games. * Carlos Zambrano has pitched less than five innings in each of his last two starts against the Mets. In those last two starts combined, he has pitched 8.0 innings with a 9.00 ERA and .378 opponent batting average.

[bigpurple:2cafvf2y]Daym![/bigpurple:2cafvf2y] Nice job by Bobby P -- bases load, 0 outs: whiff, whiff, comebacker (wicked comebacker but whatever). 1-0 at the stretch!

Once again we see why Pagan is not an everyday ML player. Good hitter, good fielder, ten-cent head.

Pagan, you MF'er.

You know, FAN should find a Geico-like sponsor to underwrite the Angel Pagan Unexpected Mess of the Game. (Sham-Wow? Bounty? Diaper Duck?) 'Cause, you know, someone other than the opposing team should benefit.

Nice play by Fukudome to cut that one off. NICE. I'd much rather see Kevin Gregg for another series per year than the Rays.

Stokes might actually get a vulture win out of this! He owes Bobby a steak or something.
|
LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Sep 04 2009 07:38 PM Re: IGT--Cubs @ Mets, 09/04/09 |
So... I'm enjoying this. A rare late rally and all. But I just thought it bore noting: a bunt with a man on third. And it's NOT a squeeze. 'Cause it's more important to avoid the DP with nobody out-- a theoretical DP that gets a run in, I note-- than, you know, GET A RUN IN.

[quote="metsguyinmichigan":1l74o27m]Why is Stokes still in this game?[/quote:1l74o27m] In fairness, no one hit a ball hard off him in two innings. His biggest mistake was the lead-off walk.

The good thing about that pop-up was that it was going to be an out whether anyone caught it or not -- which is kind of important for a team where catching pops is a coin-flip proposition.
