Apple pages help

Any Mac users here who can help me? A few students have submitted papers to me in .pages format, which I can't open. Can I just tell them to Save As word documents, or as .rtf? Is it as simple as that? I have students who are technologically challenged.

They may already be in a format Word will read. (On a Mac, the extension is not the format). Rename the file to change .pages to .doc, .docx (if you have Office 2007) or .rtf and see if it works. Tell the Mac users when they save a file, they need to add .doc to the filename.

Well, you can't tell the software created a Mac file by the extension. It could be from any Mac word processor. I'd contact the student and have him resend in .rtf or some other format.

The problem there is that sometimes you get a student who says "I don't know how to do that." If the student is using a PC I can talk her through it, screen by screen, but since I don't use a Mac, I don't know how to do that.

Just give in and pay the $5000 for the Mac

It's pretty much the same on a Mac. Ask what software she's using (I'm surprised it's not some version of Word), then tell her to select "Save as" and make sure it's in Word format with a .doc extension.
